Job summary

Airwallex is a global payments and financial platform seeking a senior engineer to build and operate large-scale distributed systems. You will work with Java, Kotlin or Go and modern data infra, shaping architecture and delivery across teams.

The role emphasizes ownership, tackling ambiguity with a proactive mindset, and delivering high-quality, scalable systems that support real-time processing and AI/ML infrastructure as Airwallex grows.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including distributed systems, memory management and networking.
• Proficiency in Java, Kotlin or Go.
• Hands-on experience with, or a strong desire to work deeply in, technologies such as Kafka, Flink, Spark, Kubernetes or OLAP engines.
• Experience taking complex technical challenges from initial design through production stability.
• Experience with performance tuning and systems internals, including state management, checkpointing and exactly-once semantics.
• A track record of providing technical leadership through architecture decisions, design reviews or mentorship.
• Curiosity about AI/ML infrastructure and real-time systems, with a focus on creating tangible business impact.
