Job summary

The Soft Robotics Lab at the Singapore-ETH Centre, part of ETH Zurich, invites applications for a full-time researcher in Singapore. You will design, build, and test soft robotic manipulation systems for automated baggage handling inside aircraft cargo holds, taking concepts to working prototypes.

You will work across mechanical design, actuation, sensing and control, and collaborate with SUTD, NTU, SIT partners, Airbus, SATS, and Singapore Airlines.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in mechanical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, electrical engineering, or related field.
• Hands-on experience prototyping, CAD, fabrication, electronics, or robot integration.
• Working knowledge of actuation, mechanism design, control, or embedded systems.
• Strong written and spoken English and prior research experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test soft robotic end-effectors for baggage handling.
• Develop and validate compliant actuation and sensing mechanisms.
• Integrate perception, planning, and platform work across partner institutions.
• Iterate designs through rapid prototyping and real-world testing.
