Site Reliability Engineer, Traffic Platform - Traffic SRE

Responsibilities
  • The Traffic Infrastructure Global Engineering (TIGE)-Traffic Platform team at ByteDance builds and operates multi-cloud based large-scale network services worldwide, accelerating and optimizing network traffic for TikTok and other ByteDance applications, including layer 4 load balancing, layer 4/7 acceleration, global ingress, CMAF, FaaS, and WAF.
  • Design and develop features for traffic software such as DNS Server, L4 and L7 Proxy, Web Caching, and FaaS Runtime, integrating them to process terabyte-scale data in real-time.
  • Build data pipelines and telemetry systems to support data-driven traffic control.
  • Develop API acceleration and other networking services on our multi-cloud traffic platform.
  • Perform problem solving and performance tuning for online traffic.
  • Research new technologies to improve traffic processing efficiency and scalability.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in developing network systems using Rust, C, C++, and/or Go, with skills in Linux environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, and DNS.
  • Familiarity with Microservice architecture.
  • Experience with container and orchestration technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building large-scale network services on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, OCI).
  • Experience designing and developing high-performance network load balancer products.
  • Experience with proxy software such as Nginx and Envoy.
  • Experience in system programming with low-level system calls like epoll, io-uring, etc.
  • Experience developing Web Caching software such as Apache Traffic Server and Varnish.
  • Experience with Edge Computing and FaaS Runtime development.
  • Experience in building distributed or cloud-based management systems.
  • Proficiency with newer networking protocols such as HTTP2, HTTP3/QUIC, TLS 1.3.
