DIRECT SEARCH ASIA PTE. LTD. is seeking an experienced commercial professional to drive profitability in the oil/chemical tanker markets. You will formulate strategies, negotiate charter parties, and oversee voyage returns across both spot and period markets.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business, Maritime Studies, Shipping or a related discipline.
  • Five+ years of commercial experience within the oil or chemical tanker sector.
  • Strong understanding of tanker chartering, Charter Parties and international freight markets.
  • Good knowledge of relevant maritime regulations and industry practices.
  • Proven ability to negotiate fixtures and develop commercially viable solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret market and financial information.
  • Effective leadership, communication and stakeholder-management capabilities.
  • Strategic and commercially focused approach to decision-making.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement commercial strategies to improve fleet utilisation, revenue and profitability.
  • Manage day-to-day commercial activities across both spot and period markets.
  • Identify and secure cargo opportunities through relationships with charterers, traders, commodity companies, brokers and shipowners.
  • Negotiate Charter Party terms and conclude fixtures in line with commercial objectives.
  • Evaluate freight income against vessel-hire and operating costs to optimise voyage returns.
  • Monitor freight markets, competitor activity and geopolitical developments to identify potential opportunities and risks.
  • Prepare market forecasts, performance reports and commercial recommendations for senior management.
  • Develop and maintain long-term relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Review contractual, financial and operational risks before finalising commercial agreements.
  • Coordinate post-fixture matters, including commercial disputes and claims.
  • Track the financial performance of commercial activities and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to members of the commercial team.
