Job description

As a Service Engineer with expertise in steel work, you will be responsible for supervising the structural steel repairs, including welding, fabrication, and modifications on Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) vessels and hatch covers on container vessels and bulk carriers. You will ensure that all steelwork adheres to industry standards and vessel safety regulations, while leading a team of engineers and subcontractors. This role requires in-depth knowledge of steel structures and the capability to manage projects efficiently and safely, ensuring high-quality service for MacGregor and third-party products when necessary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Steel Work Supervision: Supervise structural steel repairs, including welding, fabrication, and modifications on RoRo vessels, container vessels, and bulk carriers, ensuring compliance with industry and safety standards.

  • Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance, corrective actions, and upgrades on MacGregor equipment, including RoRo ramps, doors, and hatches.

  • Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of steel structures and mechanical systems to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

  • Project Management: Lead and manage subcontractors during larger steel repair projects, ensuring the work is completed on time and within budget.

  • Customer Support: Establish and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external customers, providing technical support and feedback to relevant teams.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) standards and site-specific safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Marine Engineering or an equivalent technical qualification in mechanical, marine, or steel fabrication fields. Engineering graduates are encouraged to apply.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in supervising steelwork, particularly with RoRo/Hatch Cover systems or in marine environments.

  • Strong background in mechanical, hydraulic, and steel structures.

  • Experience working in ports, onboard ships, and offshore environments is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in welding and steel fabrication techniques, with supervisory experience.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capability to lead teams and manage projects independently.

  • Fluent in English; multilingual skills are an asset.

  • Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
