Job summary

PALFINGER ASIA PACIFIC PTE. LTD. is seeking a Marine Engine Diagnostics Specialist to diagnose, repair and maintain marine engines and related systems aboard ships and in yards.

The role requires hands-on expertise and the ability to work on deck equipment and lifesaving devices. You will travel to shipyards and ports, perform troubleshooting, provide technical inputs to the service team, and ensure documentation and compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of hands-on experience in marine engine diagnostics, repair, overhaul and maintenance.
  • Relevant technical, marine engineering or mechanical engineering qualification.
  • Strong practical knowledge of diesel engines and associated electrical, electronic, fuel, cooling, hydraulic and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, commissioning and preventive maintenance of marine engines and associated systems.
  • Serve as an experienced engine specialist within the service team, providing practical technical input on engine-related matters.
  • Investigate engine faults, identify root causes and carry out safe, reliable repairs.
  • Support customer enquiries and internal sales and service teams on engine-related technical matters.
  • Perform service work on deck equipment and lifesaving appliances, including boats, hooks, davits, winches and cranes.
  • Provide service solutions including commissioning, inspection, maintenance, spare parts repair, refurbishment and upgrades.

Job description

The primary purpose of this role is to serve as the team's specialist in marine engine diagnostics, repair, overhaul, maintenance and servicing. The role is expected to independently resolve complex engine‑related issues while supporting service activities involving boats, hooks, davits, winches, cranes and other marine equipment.


Main tasks of the role includes:


Service


  • Perform hands‑on diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, commissioning and preventive maintenance of marine engines and associated systems.

  • Serve as an experienced engine specialist within the service team, providing practical technical input on engine‑related matters.

  • Investigate engine faults, identify root causes and carry out safe, reliable and commercially practical repairs.

  • Support customer enquiries and internal sales and service teams on engine‑related technical matters.

  • Perform service work on deck equipment and lifesaving appliances, including boats, hooks, davits, winches and cranes.

  • Provide service solutions to deck equipment and lifesaving appliances which includes commissioning, inspection, maintenance, spare parts repair, refurbishment, upgrades, hook replacement, etc.

  • Familiar with local shipyards and port procedures.

  • Utilize electronic, hydraulic and mechanical theory along with related knowledge to test and modify operational machinery.


Administrative


  • Complete thorough service reports to ensure all activities are documented and communicated effectively.

  • Submission of claims, overtime and overseas allowances.

  • Report comments and feedback from customers to Service Coordinators or Service Manager.


Training


  • Attend training and ensure that the technical skills and product knowledge are kept up to date.

  • Ensure the validity of relevant certifications to carry out service jobs, and renew accordingly for expiring certificates.


Minimum Requirements


  • Relevant technical, marine engineering or mechanical engineering qualification.

  • At least three years of hands‑on experience in marine engine diagnostics, repair, overhaul and maintenance.

  • Strong practical knowledge of diesel engines and associated electrical, electronic, fuel, cooling, hydraulic and mechanical systems.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex faults independently and work effectively under operational pressure.

  • Willingness and physical ability to work aboard vessels, in shipyards and offshore, including work at height, confined‑space entry and irregular working hours where required.
