A leading company in marine services is looking for both a Senior Underwriter and an Underwriter for its P&I team in Singapore. The roles involve underwriting business, managing client relations, and ensuring compliance with company policies while developing and growing client business effectively.
Our Singapore office is looking for two roles for our P&I team in Asia and are looking to hire underwriters to support our new underwriting team for our Asia Pacific Assureds.
The successful candidates will be expected to underwrite business for Protection & Indemnity (P&I) and Charterers’ Liability. He/She will work fairly independently but will also be expected to be a team player and align strategies and objectives with the team and the wider organisation.
What we are looking for:
1) Senior Underwriter (10 to 15 years of relevant underwriting experience)
2) Underwriter (7 to 10 years of relevant underwriting experience)
Work description
Purpose
The role holder is a member of the FPPI Underwriting Team of Owners and Charterers’ Liability and is responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of the vision and the strategy of MS Amlin Marine in relation to specific portfolio(s) and / or markets to an agreed authority level. Specifically, to underwrite profitable risks within the Owners and Charterers’ Liability Team in order to retain and grow allocated or new accounts in line with the company’s business plan.
Dimension
The Underwriter will be focused on the successful management of specific client portfolios and relevant market activity within the Underwriting Team. The role holder will take responsibility for maintaining and building new business which profitably grows the Class and minimises loss exposures. As part of MS Amlin Marine there will be regular interaction across all global locations.
Underwriting
Generate and manage business on a client relationship basis for specific portfolio and product groups and platforms within the Class.
Ensure risks are written within the agreed parameters – making sound, profitable long term decisions on risks that are written with a focus on smart rationale underwriting.
Alignment to and delivery of tactical client intimacy initiatives within the portfolio(s), markets and product forum.
Undertake analysis of the portfolio to identify business opportunities, products and clients, ensuring a robust business case.
Where appropriate, seek out and grow opportunities with new clients.
Ensure client intimacy is achieved through the efficient oversight of issues raised including liaison to ensure effective conclusion to complaints and claims.
Undertake sound market analysis and target potential new clients, brokers and products
Maintain and build effective relationships with existing and new clients through regular contact, demonstrating a clear understanding of their business and how we add value.
Maintain strong, effective relationships with existing brokers, where appropriate seeking out new opportunities with existing and new brokers, thereby following the Broker Onboarding Requirements..
Effectively represent self and class in external activities, groups and committees
Work in partnership with the other Classes within and across the regions to leverage relationships and opportunities.
Coaches other (assistant) Underwriters in the execution of their roles as per the business plan and the guidelines.
Guides and trains (assistant) Underwriters in developing their personal and business skills.
Compliance and Risk Management
Conduct role in accordance with the Company’s Business Ethics policy and all regulated entities as appropriate.
Manage the location/market so that is complies with relevant risk, regulatory and legal requirements and so that it complies with Group policies.
Qualification
Educational background in Law and ACII preferred.
Practical experience & sound knowledge in Owners P&I and/or Charterers’ Liability.
