Job summary

A leading company is seeking an Underwriter to assist in managing its Commercial Lines portfolio and drive premium growth. The role requires a minimum of 8 years' experience in underwriting, a certification in General and Health Insurance, and strong communication and negotiation skills. The ideal candidate should have a pragmatic approach and a positive, service-oriented attitude while leading a small team and engaging with intermediaries to improve business outcomes.

Qualifications

Job description

1. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


1.1 Assist the Team Leader in the underwriting and management of Commercial Lines portfolio to achieve sustainable underwriting profits and premium growth;


1.2 Aim to achieve a comprehensive understanding of risk exposures and policy terms and conditions. Take steps towards deep learning and specializing in two lines of business. Accept only risks which one can understand;


1.3 Adhere to underwriting/corporate guidelines;


1.4 Collaborate with Distribution to identify opportunities and strategies in support of growth in Commercial Lines segments and develop appropriate underwriting solutions for our intermediaries/insureds. This includes research and development of new products and initiatives to meet changing customer needs that align with our company’s interests.


1.5 Collaborate with Distribution to bring in new business and maintain high renewal retention;


1.6 Support Distribution in engaging with intermediaries/insureds and conduct regular portfolio review with the aim of improving underwriting results and premium growth;


1.7 Develop efficient workflow, processes, turnaround time, quality service standards, and procedures with the aim of an overall seamless operation (both within & inter-divisions);


1.8 Monitor progress and provide guidance for junior staff towards effective contribution in your team;


1.9 Assist the Team Leader to achieve the performance objectives of the department and maintain a high level of service;


1.10 Prepare statistics and reports to track and monitor business;


1.11 Lead/Participate in any other projects and tasks as assigned.


2. EDUCATION / PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION


2.1 Mandatory: Certification in General Insurance (CGI) and Health Insurance (HI)


2.2 Diploma/Tertiary education and/or ACII or other insurance diploma is a plus.


3. EXPERIENCE & ANY SPECIFIC SKILLS SET REQUIRED


3.1 Minimum 8 years in underwriting Property and/or Construction business in Singapore. Experience in underwriting risks outside of Singapore in considered an advantage.


3.2 Good communicator, positive and service oriented attitude, good negotiation skills.


3.3 Hands on, Pragmatic with some leadership experience


3.4 Good Microsoft Office skills.
