Job description

The Underwriter / Senior Underwriter will be part of a lean and dynamic team specialising in Medical Malpractice across the APAC region. This role offers the opportunity to take on high-value underwriting responsibilities and develop expertise in a niche and growing specialty insurance line. You will support the evaluation and underwriting of medical malpractice risks across various client segments, including hospitals, clinics, and medical professionals, while building strong relationships with brokers, clients and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and underwrite new and renewal medical malpractice business in accordance with underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Develop and maintain broker and client relationships across the region through regular engagement and travel.
  • Collaborate closely with claims, legal, actuarial and global underwriting teams to analyse risks and profitability.
  • Participate in portfolio reviews and strategy discussions to support the sustainable growth of the medical malpractice book.
  • Stay updated on market trends, legal developments and emerging risks within the healthcare and insurance sectors.

Candidate Profile:

  • Experience:
  • Ideally 2–5 years of experience in underwriting in Professional/Financial Lines, Casualty, or Healthcare insurance.
  • Alternative backgrounds from healthcare or medical fields (e.g. pharmacists) will also be considered.
  • Key Traits:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a client-focused approach.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and grow within a team-oriented environment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced and lean team.
  • Certifications: MAS licensing is mandatory (can be obtained within 6 months post-hire).
