Description

The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), a faculty of the University of the Arts Singapore, is a leading arts institution renowned for its global reputation and commitment to excellence in arts education. We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Technical Officer to support the School of Fine Art (SFA).

NAFA’s pioneering Fine Art programme is dedicated to nurturing artists and creative practitioners who are poised to lead and shape both the local and regional art scenes.


Roles and Responsibilities

In this pivotal role, you will manage the daily operations and maintenance of assigned workshops, ensuring they remain fully functional, well-maintained, and conducive to student learning. Your duties will include:

  • Supervising students’ projects by providing technical guidance and hands-on support in the production of scaled and full-scale prototypes. This includes assisting with processes such as metal and wirework, welding, plaster work, carving, mould-making, and rapid prototyping.
  • Preparing materials and offering technical consultations on project planning, testing, material selection, and construction methods.
  • Conducting safety inductions and operating demonstrations for workshop machinery, including pug mills and slab rollers.
  • Enforcing proper workshop safety protocols, attire regulations, and equipment usage.
  • Managing inventory, equipment loans, and the safe storage of chemicals and raw materials.
  • Supporting budgeting and resource planning for the workshop and the school.
  • Performing other ad hoc duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • A Diploma in a relevant discipline with a minimum of three years of related experience. Experience in a workshop or studio environment is highly advantageous.
  • Strong practical knowledge of workshop operations, including fabrication techniques, technical making, and material applications in three-dimensional forms.
  • Proficiency in operating standard workshop tools and equipment.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Familiarity with design and modelling software such as Rhinoceros, ZBrush, Blender, and Illustrator will be a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • A passion for mentoring and guiding students in a dynamic and hands-on learning environment.
