Job description

JOB PURPOSE:

The Technical Manager is primarily responsible for supporting the management of the operations of the Technical team, overseeing the reformulation of paint products, and providing technical advice, support and communication to other departments and Japan headquarters.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Reformulation of paint products

  1. Provide guidance for the reformulation of paint products based on the original disclosure formulation supplied by Japan Technical Headquarter, arising from the use of approved local or alternative raw materials and to ensure fit with the local production facilities and conditions.
  2. Provide guidance on the application of a series of tests to check and confirm that the properties of the reformulated paints meet the required specifications.
  3. Monitor the analysis & evaluation acceptance check of new pre-shipment raw materials in current reformulation without changing the product’s specifications.
  4. Support in planning and overseeing cost down reformulation with approved and cheaper cost alternative raw materials.
  5. Guide the applications of approval processes for each reformulation and raw materials, to be accompanied by the required test results or analysis reports.
  6. Provide guidance on the reformulation check and approval application of paint products from overseas Licensee-Agreement companies from India, Bangladesh and New Zealand.

2. Other responsibilities

  1. Support the management of the new application of product’s certificates of AFS / FDA / PSPC and Fire-retardant coatings that are requested by Japan Technical Headquarter.
  2. Support the management of various new requirements & compliance of paint products, licensing of poisonous chemicals usage and laboratory test equipment as per Japan & local NEA’s regulations.
  3. Provide technical guidance and support to Technical, Sales and Technical Service departments.
  4. Assessment and evaluation of test samples.
  5. Responsible for liaison with Japanese associates and clients and reporting to and communication support with R&D Group in Japan.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  1. Bachelor Degree in Material Science / Chemistry or Equivalent
  2. Fluency in spoken and written Japanese required for professional liaison with Japanese associates and clients or equivalent with Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) Certificate in Level N3 or N2 will be an added advantage
  3. Minimum 6 - 8 years of technical experience in the marine and industrial paint manufacturing sector with strong understanding in technical reformulation, product development and testing methodology of marine paint products.

KEY TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Strong knowledge in paint products and their properties.
  2. Fluency in both English and Japanese languages.
