Job description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Structuring Strategy: Lead bespoke tax structuring efforts, particularly for the Japan office, to ensure tax efficiency and compliance across Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan.
  • Cross-Border Transactions: Provide strategic tax advice on cross-border transactions, focusing on optimizing tax structures and ensuring compliance with relevant tax regulations, particularly around Japan.
  • Funds U.S. Tax Reporting: Oversee U.S. tax reporting, including K1 filings for U.S. taxable investors, collaborating with the fund administrator and conducting internal reviews before submission.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the firm adheres to all applicable tax regulations across its jurisdictions. While tax reporting is largely outsourced, you will be responsible for ensuring the structures align with tax strategies and minimize tax liabilities.
  • Tax Optimization s PsL Booking: Focus on reducing margins and optimizing PCL booking strategies to ensure the most tax-efficient outcomes.
  • Collaboration with External Partners: Manage relationships with tax advisors, including EY for Singapore tax matters, and collaborate with external parties on tax treaty negotiations, particularly concerning Japan and Hong Kong

Key Requirements:

  • Experience: At least 7-10 years of experience in tax, specifically with cross-border tax transactions, investment management, and bespoke tax structuring, gained from a Big 4 accounting firm.
  • Jurisdictional Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan tax systems, with specific experience in Japan tax treaties being a strong advantage.
  • Strategic Thinker: Proven ability to think strategically and develop tax-efficient solutions that align with the firm’s goals.
  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide tax structuring initiatives and collaborate with senior leadership.
  • Adaptability: Ability to learn quickly and adapt to evolving tax regulations, particularly in a fast-growing and dynamic investment environment.
  • Stakeholder Management: Comfortable managing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, including potential involvement in lobbying regulators in the future.
