Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific seeks a Senior Engineer, Systems Design to join our engineering team as a Systems Integrator across life-science instrumentation. You will bring hardware, software, firmware and subsystems together, conducting hands-on testing and driving system-level risk analysis.

You will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, optical, and software teams to enable stable, integrated instrument platforms and support design changes with rigorous testing and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Biomedical, Bioengineering, or another relevant discipline.
• Typically 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, integration engineering, design engineering, or multidisciplinary product development.
• Hands-on engineering and test experience with physical products, prototypes, lab equipment or complex electromechanical systems.
• Strong systems thinking with ability to understand interactions and failure mechanisms across disciplines.
• Systems integration experience is preferred; ability to learn systems integration on the job.
• Strong test-engineering fundamentals: experimental design, data collection/analysis, troubleshooting and documentation.
• Analytical/problem-solving ability with root-cause analysis and risk assessment.
• Knowledge of product-development practices: requirements, interfaces, traceability, design controls and verification concepts.
• Ability to communicate findings clearly and work with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead system integration activities, bringing multidisciplinary subsystems into connected system configurations.
• Perform hands-on testing on instruments and prototypes to support feasibility studies and integration checkout.
• Evaluate interfaces and interactions across mechanical, electrical, optical, fluidic, thermal, firmware and software domains.
• Lead troubleshooting and root-cause investigations coordinating with technical owners.
• Develop or contribute to test methods, acceptance criteria and integration coverage based on risks.
• Analyze experimental data and translate results into conclusions and recommendations.
• Support feasibility studies and proof-of-concept experiments for new technologies.
• Identify system-level risks and support risk retirement activities.
