Job summary

Coupang is seeking a Senior Staff/Staff Engineer for the Security Infrastructure team in Singapore. You will build the platform that safeguards customers and the company by advancing our dynamic authorization engine across thousands of services, focusing on usability, reliability, and scale.

You will work on back-end APIs in Java and Go within a fast-paced, high-tech environment and collaborate with multiple teams to drive platform adoption and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related technical field.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience, or 6 years with an advanced degree.
• 2+ years leading technical projects.
• Fluent in C++, Java, and Go.
• Hands-on experience designing and developing large-scale distributed systems.
• Proven track record delivering mission-critical systems.
• Experience with cloud computing (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Deep understanding of cloud applications design, API design patterns, performance and scale.

Role Overview

As a Senior Staff / Staff Engineer on the Security Infrastructure team, you will build the platform that enables Coupang to win and grow our customers’ confidence while rapidly expanding and scaling our services. Specifically, you will work on our dynamic authorization engine, which manages the security risks of all our customer interactions by looking for signs of unusual or potentially malicious activity. This is a critical system which protects both our customers and our company against damage from malicious activity.

Our work supports teams across Coupang and thousands of microservices. We are looking for engineers who are passionate about building platforms at scale, with emphasis on usability, reliability and efficiency. What You Will Do

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field.
• 8+ years professional software development experience, or 6 years’ experience with advanced degree.
• 2+ years’ experience leading technical projects.
• Fluent in one or more of C++, Java and Go.
• Recent hands‑on experience designing and developing large scale distributed systems.
• Proven track record of delivering mission critical systems.
• Experience with cloud computing using AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Deep understanding of Cloud applications design and architecture, good API design patterns, performance and scale.

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters or PhD degree in computer science or other related technical field.
• Working knowledge of security protocols such as OIDC and OAuth2.
• Working knowledge of IAM systems such as identity providers and role based authorization.
• Experience working with Kubernetes, gRPC and Istio.
• Experience building high‑reliability and low‑latency systems in the Cloud.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience handling multiple competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment and leading the delivery of large‑scale services for complex business offerings.
