Job description

Job Summary

The job holder is required to detect, investigate, monitor and report any and all healthcare-associated infections within National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS). He or she co-ordinates and implements Infection Control procedures; and educates employees in regards to infection prevention and control. He or she also provides guidance and direction to the nursing staff, Dental Assisting staff and Clinicians on infection control matters.

Main Duties and Responsibility

(a) Leadership

  • Assist and collaborate with the Chairman, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) to define and develop plans that enable full participation for unit or department level to meet the infection control policies and guidelines of NDCS.

(b) Infection Control Practices

  • Provide advanced nursing practice in the area of infection control.
  • Responsible for identification, systematic collection and recording of healthcare associated infection.
  • Performs audits to collect surveillance data for infection control purposes, correlating and analyzing/evaluating all surveillance data for recommendation of improvement.
  • Assist Chairman, IPC in investigating outbreaks of infection control or any study identified by the IPC. Assist in the development and implementation of any improved infection control measures as approved by the IPC.
  • Assist in evaluating of infection control practices related to development of new facilities or construction renovation.

(c) Infection Control Resource Person

  • Implement and conduct in-service, education and e-learning for unit or department healthcare workers on infection control practices.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of staff educational programmes and materials used in infection control practices.
  • Participate and contribute expert opinion on infection control in the committee.
  • Teach, guide orientate new staff and other personnel assigned to the department.

(d) Infection Control Surveillance

  • Compile, collect and provide necessary data analysis for Infection Control parameters within NDCS and is in charge of the overall Infection Control surveillance programme.

(e) Infection Control Audit

  • Work with Chairman, IPC in the planning and evaluation of infection control audit programmes.
  • Responsible in planning infection control audit and training programmes in the preparedness exercise for pandemic outbreak.

(f) Infection Control Research and Project

  • Assist Chairman, IPC in research and projects based on the evaluation of the infection control surveillance and audit programmes.
  • Assist Chairman, IPC in the infection prevention and control in sharing and publishing paper of research and projects on infection control at conferences and seminars.

(g) Patient Care Management

  • Provide medical cover and nursing care to patients at SOCs by demonstrating the clinical nursing role.
  • Check and ensure that the resuscitation and injection trolleys at SOCs are equipped and in readiness for use.
  • Assist the nurse manager in equipment inventory and ensure timely preventive maintenance of clinic resuscitation equipment to ensure all equipment are functioning.

Job Requirements

  • A recognized Certificate/Diploma/Degree in nursing or its equivalent.
  • At least 5 years as a registered nurse in an acute care setting.
  • Proficiency in the use of statistical software such as Microsoft Office.
  • A valid practising certificate issued by the Singapore Nursing Board.
  • Certification in Basic and Advanced Infection Control Training is preferred.
