Job summary

Motional seeks a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to join the Map Creator team, shaping the future of autonomous vehicle mapping. You will design and build a web-based 2D/3D map editor, visualization tools, and validation systems, ensuring scalable performance for terabytes of data.

Collaboration with ML teams and international groups will drive automation and practical solutions. You will own architecture and multi-month projects, mentor peers, and help define roadmaps that align with product

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong experience with TypeScript, React, and modern software development practices.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, architecture, concurrency, observability, and design patterns.
• Ability to own solutions from requirements through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical decisions clearly.
• Expertise in building complex editor applications, geospatial data processing, high-performance visualization, or UI/UX for complex workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain a web-based 2D/3D map editor, visualization tools, and validation systems.
• Optimize performance across CPU, memory, rendering, networking, and concurrency for terabytes of map data.
• Develop map generation and validation automations to improve mapping productivity.
• Collaborate with Machine Learning teams to integrate ML-based automation into workflows.
• Work with international teams to understand problems and deliver practical solutions.
• Leverage AI tools and guide integration of agentic AI capabilities and guardrails into workflows.
• Own end-to-end multi-month projects from architecture to deployment and maintenance (Senior).
• Define scalable, high-performance solutions that improve UX and reliability.
• Mentor engineers through technical challenges and code/design reviews.
• Lead multi-quarter initiatives, aligning with product strategy and goals (Staff).
