Job description

The focus of the A*STAR Institute for Human Development and Potential (A*STAR IHDP) is research to improve the health and well-being of Singaporeans across the life course. Led by Professor Neena Modi, Deputy Executive Director of IHDP, and a team from A*Star, IHDP is coordinating the development of a major new national resource, the Singapore National Life-Course Research Registry (SG-NEST). This is a globally unique, visionary ambition that involves creating a repository of data sourced as standardised extracts from electronic health records that will ultimately extend to all Singaporeans from conception to grave. By creating a single source of quality-assured data curated to a research-ready standard, SG-NEST will avoid expensive, burdensome, and inefficient repetitive data collection and management and support diverse interventional and observational research, as well as artificial intelligence and data science innovations.

The development of this innovative resource requires the integration of work across technical, operational, legal and regulatory, patient and public involvement and engagement domains, and additionally, involves the design and delivery of exemplar, use-case research studies that illustrate the utility of SG-NEST. The first phase of development will focus on the acquisition and curation of data frombaby andmother electronic health records.

Applications are welcome from clinically qualified and non-clinically qualified individuals. The post offers opportunity to participate in the development of a major new research resource, engage with senior researchers, policymakers, patients and the public, and national and international advisors, and gain experience in each of the domains of development as well as the design of innovative interventional clinical trials, observational studies, and data science applications. The position provides unique opportunity to broaden the experience and skill set of an individual pursuing a career in biomedical research, health policy, or science administration.

Job Responsibilities

  • You will help coordinate activities, and liaise with relevant individuals, organisations, and institutions.
  • You will ensure momentum is maintained by working groups established across technical, operational, legal and regulatory, and patient and public involvement and engagement domains.
  • You will assist in the development of three initial research studies, one interventional, one observational and one in a data science/artificial intelligence area.
  • You will champion SG-NEST and speak on Professor Modi’s behalf as required.
