Job summary

A*STAR Aviation Meteorology Project is seeking a scientist to advance research and develop operational, user-centric software for air traffic management in Singapore.

The role involves mastering aviation weather domains, leading algorithm research, translating findings into prototypes, and delivering robust software through an end-to-end lifecycle with agile collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• PhD required in Computer Science, Atmospheric Science, Engineering or related field.
• 1–3 years post-graduate research or professional software development experience.
• Strong programming in Python, Java or C++.
• Experience with front-end technologies like TypeScript and React is a plus.
• Experience in scientific computing, data analysis and developing mathematical or ML models.
• Strong foundation in OOP and writing clean, well-tested code.

Responsibilities

• Domain Mastery: actively learn aviation and weather domain knowledge to conduct impactful research and build contextualised solutions.
• Research & Algorithm Development: lead research and develop advanced algorithms/models for air traffic control/meteorology.
• Research Translation: translate research into viable, user-centric software prototypes and solutions.
• System Design & Development: design, build, and maintain robust, scalable software systems with solid engineering principles.
• End-to-End Delivery: oversee the full software development lifecycle from ideation to deployment and maintenance.
• Agile & Collaborative Work: collaborate with designers, product owners and researchers, applying agile practices to deliver high-quality software.
• Stakeholder Engagement: communicate research and technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
