Job Purpose

We are seeking a committed and proactive Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Officer to support our safety function in maintaining a safe and compliant working environment in our research institutes. The ideal candidate will be a registered WSH Officer with 1-2 years of relevant experience, preferably in laboratories handling biological agents, hazardous chemicals, and scientific equipment.

Job Description

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining the Workplace Safety & Health Management System (WSHMS) in accordance with local legislation (e.g. the WSH Act and its subsidiary regulations) and internal standards.
  • Liaise with the various government agencies and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including guidelines from MOH, AVS, SCDF, SPF, NEA, and MOM.
  • Provide advice to Management with respect to changes in the Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and Standards, and make recommendations on any aspects of workplace safety & health and environment protection matters.
  • Assist in implementing the risk management plans and conducting risk assessments of the work activities in the workplace.
  • Conduct incidents investigations, root cause analysis, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct safety inspections and evaluate non-compliance, unsafe work conditions and practices to identify WSH performance gaps.
  • Develop WSH training programmes and conduct safety inductions, trainings and drills (e.g. chemical spills, fire evacuation).
  • Promote a culture of safety & health through engagement with researchers and lab users.
  • Implement emergency preparedness and response plans and communicate plans to stakeholders.
  • Act as the secretariat and facilitate the operations of the WSH committee

Job Requirement

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field.
  • At least 1-2 years of relevant experience in laboratory or research environments preferred.
  • Registered Workplace Safety and Health Officer with MOM will have an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with Singapore and International WSH Standards and Regulations
  • Self-driven and meticulous with strong ability to multi-task
  • Possess strong organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
