Job description
A*STAR Infectious Diseases Labs (A*STAR IDL) aims to be the global leader in tropical infectious diseases through scientific excellence in research and innovation to enhance human health and respond to future pandemics.
A*STAR IDL is seeking for a Senior Research Officer/Engineer to join us in our mission to be a leading centre of infectious diseases research and support day-to-day operating of the A*STAR High Containment (Biosafety Level 3) Facility. We are seeking motivated candidates to contribute to our efforts in pandemic preparedness.
Job Description:
Facilities management & maintenance of various infrastructure e.g. ACMV / M&E services, BMS, Gas and Chemical Systems, Security Access Control, Cleaning & Pest Control, Landscaping, General Building services etc.
Engage internal stakeholders and various external parties e.g. Landlord, Contractors, Supplier in keeping A*STAR facilities relevant and vibrant.
Develop and review the facility engineering related SOPs and risk assessments and ensure facility and equipment are in good working order and are operated in accordance with relevant safety guidelines, legislations, and standards.
Act as main liaison with relevant parties in case of facility maintenance / breakdown, building-related matters, fire outbreak, and ensure maintenance of the Facility.
Implement and manage the facility security measures and IT-systems that are commensurate with the BSL-3 Operations and potential risks as well as control the Facility access to certified personnel.
Facilitate and coordinate maintenance teams, repair projects for routine and non-routine maintenance works on the Facility, equipment, and systems and to maintain relevant records.
Ensure integrity of the physical containment, regular cleaning, and housekeeping of the Facility.
Regularly monitor/inspect all facility systems / equipment with checklists and maintain appropriate documentation. Provide training for maintenance personnel on proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), entry-exit procedures, security, accident/incident reporting, etc, to ensure safe working conditions and procedures within the Facility.
Respond to the Facility Building Management System (BMS) signals and alarms appropriately and liaise with BSL-3 Operations Team to coordinate repair / maintenance of systems.
Respond to any emergency situations or calls from the users with necessary action such as utility breakdown, fire, security breach, etc.
Assist with investigations and rectifications of physical and operational failures.
Job Requirements:
A minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering (such as ME or EE) or biomedical science.
Possess at least 5 years of relevant experience in project development and / or facilities management in research and/ or industrial facility.
Qualified Biosafety Coordinator/Officer is not required but an added advantage.
Familiarity with ISO35001/ISO17025/ISO9001 is advantageous.
Experience in preparing SOPs is beneficial.
A self-driven and meticulous individual who has the strong ability to multi-task.
Good time management skills and ability to deliver results under tight timelines.
Possess strong interpersonal, oral and written communication and organization skills.
Confident to communicate at all levels and able to think creatively and apply strategic thinking to tasks.
Highly motivated with a willingness to learn new techniques/software.
The role would require you to wear personal protective equipment, including respiratory protection equipment, during work/training/emergency response/inspection.
