Job Description

The Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) is a policy research think-tank in the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore.

The Senior Research Fellow will initiate, lead, and contribute to research projects in the areas of social mobility, community and workforce development and/or cultural engagement. Responsibilities include working with researchers in the Institute and other academic institutions, external stakeholders like the government, industry and people sector, to conceptualise and execute research projects that inform policymaking. The Senior Research Fellow should have a clear and established research portfolio with significant experience in designing research studies that combine academic and practical expertise to develop evidence-based and data-driven recommendations for relevant policymakers. Their work should contribute to knowledge-building in their areas of expertise.

The job scope includes:

• Work closely with the department head and IPS Director in research projects that support evidence-driven policy development in Singapore
• Initiate and lead research programmes that build on empirical data collection to develop evidence-based recommendations that address pertinent policy issues
• Publish research findings in working papers, journal reports, policy briefs and op-eds
• Present findings to stakeholders through briefings, seminars and workshops
• Convene and undertake administrative duties like developing and facilitating research conferences, workshops and closed-door discussions
• Contribute to the development and implementation of Institute-level projects

Qualifications

Applicants must:


• Be a Singapore Citizen (owing to the nature of IPS' workstreams)
• Have a Doctorate Degree in Social Sciences or a related field from a reputed university
• Expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative research design, data collection and analysis
• Have a good track record in leading research projects and stakeholder engagement. Experience in securing research grants and funding for projects is an added advantage.
• Have strong English communication skills (spoken and written). Proficiency in additional languages would be a plus.
• Be able to work independently and with others in a team
• Be able to supervise and mentor younger researchers and research assistants supporting projects in the department

Researchers in the department work on a variety of projects using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The Senior Research Fellow will work with the department head and Director of IPS to initiate projects, seek funding for them, operationalise the projects and report on the outcomes. There will be opportunities to publish on a diverse range of platforms.
