Job description

The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is seeking to hire a very experienced Senior Research Engineer II to lead the planning, manufacturing, assembling and testing of experimental high voltage electric aircraft for research purpose.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with team members in the design and development of experimental electric aircraft.

  • Co-develop a complete high-voltage electrical architecture (greater than 400 volts) with other team members.

  • Lead, supervise, and mentor the team in the assembly of the electric research aircraft, ensuring strict adherence to project timelines and milestones.

  • Provide hands-on support in assembling the electric research aircraft and give clear, instructional guidance to the team members.

  • Develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive safety protocols for the assembly, maintenance, repair, and testing of high-voltage electric aircraft systems.

  • Participate in flight testing of the electric research aircraft and ensure the aircraft meets all safety and airworthiness standards.

  • Assist in the analysis of flight test data to support further development and optimization.

Job Requirements:

  • Candidate must have minimum of 20 years of hands-on experience in developing, assembling, maintaining, and troubleshooting engine-powered, electric, and hybrid vehicles.

  • At least 10 years of professional experience performing mechanical work on car chassis.

  • Proven experience in teaching or training others on high-voltage systems in automotive applications.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with team members under minimal supervision.

  • Willingness to work beyond standard office hours when project timelines are critical; this role demands reliability and the ability to deliver results under tight deadlines.

  • Preference will be given to Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents due to the need to work with Singapore government agencies and undertake international travel.
