Job summary

NTU's Centre for Smart Platform Infrastructure Research on Integrative Technology (SPIRIT) invites applications for a Senior Research Engineer I to lead AI and NLP research in building smart nation platforms. The successful candidate will gather requirements, design NLP algorithms, implement models for semantic analysis, ontologies and knowledge graphs, and contribute to translational projects with scalable solutions.

Documentation and reporting are expected.

Qualifications

• PhD in computer science with AI/NLP focus.
• Research background in AI and NLP.
• Proficient in Python, C/C++ and research packages.
• Experience with large-scale text processing and analytics.
• Good publication record.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive AI/NLP research for smart platform inference.
• Design and implement NLP algorithms and models for semantic analysis.
• Apply NLP to knowledge retrieval and relevance ranking.
• Conduct translational research to scale state-of-the-art solutions.
• Document findings and publish scientific reports.

Job description

A Senior Research Engineer I position is available in the Centre for Smart Platform Infrastructure Research on Integrative Technology (SPIRIT), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. SPIRIT is a translational R&D institute funded by National Research Foundation and supported by Smart Nation Programme Office and GovTech, to develop the Smart Platform Infrastructure to enable applications in Video Analytics, Wireless Sensors Network and other areas required by Singapore as a Smart Nation. Through cutting-edge systems research, SPIRIT Centre aims to enable translational efforts in data science and analytics for solving public sector challenges through innovative solutions.

Job Description:

The successful applicant will be responsible for the AI/NLP research and development in designing smart nation platforms.

• Gather system requirements by defining and analyzing system problems
• Design and implement natural language processing (NLP) algorithms and models for semantic analysis, e.g., word embedding, named-entity recognition, coreference resolution and parsing, and ontology and knowledge graph constructions
• Application of NLP in knowledge and information retrieval, and relevancy ranking with spatiotemporal consideration
• Conduct "translational" research to apply the state-of-the-art solutions at scale for real world challenges
• Documentation and scientific reporting

Job Requirements:

• PhD in computer science
• Some experience and research background in AI and NLP
• Passionate about NLP and AI related research, innovations and their applications
• Proficient in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, etc.) and research packages/modules
• Experience in large-scale text processing and analytics
• Good track records in publication
