Job summary

Job Purpose

The Radiographer in a Health Screening Centre is responsible for performing a range of diagnostic imaging services, including X-rays, mammography, bone mineral density (BMD) tests, and ultrasound examinations. This role ensures the accurate and timely provision of high-quality imaging services to assist in the early detection and diagnosis of medical conditions. The Radiographer ensures patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality while delivering exceptional care and accurate results for clinical interpretation.

Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Service and Quality
  • Performs stipulated examinations (e.g., general X-ray, bone mineral density, mammography, and ultrasound) on patients as requested by referring clinicians using clinically accepted standards described in the SOP; with due regard to patient/public safety, patient care and clinical requirement.
  • Ensure patient records and imaging data are accurately documented and stored in compliance with healthcare regulations and confidentiality policies.
  • Performs regular system checks and image QC tests to ensure optimal performance of the imaging equipment.
  • Schedules repairs and maintenance of the imaging equipment whenever necessary, and in such a manner as to cause minimal disruption to the department’s operations and maintain a record of all such occurrences.
  • Identify and promptly flag up any urgent or abnormal findings during radiographic examinations. Communicate these findings immediately to the supervising physician or relevant healthcare professional to ensure timely and appropriate follow-up and action.
People
  • Work closely with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care and the timely delivery of diagnostic results.
  • Provide excellent patient care by addressing any concerns, offering reassurance during procedures, and ensuring a positive experience throughout the process.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of junior staff or students, ensuring they adhere to best practices in ultrasound imaging and patient care.
  • Communicate clearly with patients about the procedure, potential risks, and post-exam instructions. Effectively communicate with colleagues to discuss patient findings and treatment plans.
Others
  • Regularly check, clean, and maintain ultrasound equipment to ensure it is functioning properly and report any malfunctions promptly.
  • Follow all safety, infection control, and regulatory guidelines to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities, including workshops and seminars, to stay current on new ultrasound techniques, technologies, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital or clinic policies, healthcare regulations, and ethical standards related to patient confidentiality, and quality assurance.
Qualifications
  • A recognized diploma or degree in Radiography or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in medical imaging, with at least 2 years of experience in performing the various radiologic and ultrasound examinations.
  • AHPC-registered and possess an R1 licence.
  • Good communication, good team player, and service-oriented with good listening skills.
