Job summary

Open Government Products is an experimental tech start-up team within government in Singapore. As a Senior Product Designer, you will own the end-to-end experience of your product, from vision to execution, collaborating with PMs and engineers to deliver meaningful public solutions.

You will engage with citizens and public officers, drive cross-functional collaboration, and defend design decisions to stakeholders while maintaining a focus on the public good and societal impact.

Who we are

Open Government Products is an experimental tech start-up team within government that consists mainly of engineers, designers, and product managers who build technology for the public good. We proactively identify areas where technology can help, test our prototypes with actual users, and bring our best ones to launch. As an experimental team, we have redesigned our organisation to move quickly, fail fast, and scale what works to deliver the maximum public good within a larger bureaucracy. We think about how we run the organisation from first principles, keep a flat hierarchy to maximise ownership, and bypass bureaucracy to focus on delivery of good products through a good organisation. We work on real problems, build for the user, and push for change.

What does a Senior Product Designer do?

We have over 40 products, with each team typically made up of 1 Product Manager, 1 Designer, and 2 to 4 Engineers. As a Senior Product Designer , you will own the end to end experience of your product, from vision to execution.

On a day to day basis, this means:

• Engaging with citizens and public officers to deeply understand their needs and motivations
• Facilitating cross-domain and cross-functional collaboration to align goals and guide decisions
• Driving problem exploration, solution discovery, and delivery across teams
• Working autonomously and navigating complexity with confidence
• Defending design decisions and securing buy-in from both internal and external stakeholders

You will work on meaningful projects that solve problems pertinent to our society, from transportation, to education, to healthcare. The public sector is full of opportunities where even the simplest software can have a big impact on people's lives. You will have direct ownership of your work with over 70% of our projects starting as ground up initiatives. Rather than work on commercial ventures commonly found in the startup scene, we're here to improve how we live as a society through what we can offer as a government.

• Are fluent with modern tools - We mainly use Figma, with some using Cursor. You should be comfortable learning and adopting new tools to deliver your best work.

• Armoury - Armoury replaces paper checklists with digital ones to increase submission transparency, reduce operational and manpower costs, and surface actionable insights for agencies.
• Care360 - Care360 is a patient management system that helps Medical Social Workers manage their patients' financial and psychosocial care.
• Data.gov.sg - Data.gov.sg is Singapore's open data sharing platform. We work with government agencies to make their data discoverable, understandable, and usable.
• Maps - Maps is a free self-service platform for government agencies to share location information to citizens easily.
• Pair - Pair is an AI assistant that helps government officers work more efficiently, with the use of advanced language technology.
