Senior/ Principal PCB Layout Engineer
Our client is an established, globally active technology group specialising in power conversion and thermal solutions. Its advanced R&D function is building the next wave of power delivery and cooling technology for data centre infrastructure, working hands‑on with academic institutions, component suppliers and end customers to take emerging concepts through to working proof‑of‑concept hardware.
The role
As the senior voice on board design within the R&D team, you will shape how new power and cooling concepts become manufacturable, reliable and safe boards, from first lab prototype through to production‑ready designs.
Whatyou will do
- Take ownership of PCBA layout from initial concept and bench demonstrator through to production‑intent boards.
- Define layer stack‑ups, component placement and routing strategies for boards carrying high current and high‑speed signals.
- Establish and refine layout workflows for high‑voltage and high‑power designs, ensuring safety and regulatory requirements are met.
- Champion good practice in signal and power integrity, EMI/EMC, thermal performance, and design for manufacture and test.
- Partner with electrical design engineers to improve performance and smooth product integration.
- Work with mechanical and thermal colleagues on the interface between boards and liquid cooling, heatsinks, busbars and connectors.
- Lead design reviews and provide technical direction across several concurrent projects.
- Liaise with PCB fabrication and assembly vendors to deliver high‑quality, cost‑conscious prototypes.
- Help evolve the team's layout tools, standards and methodologies.
- Contribute to safety, compliance and long‑term reliability of each design.
- Keep abreast of new PCBA technologies and apply them to demonstrators and products.
What you bring
- Bachelor's degree (or above) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 6 years of hands‑on PCB layout experience, including complex multilayer boards and ownership of design review.
- Advanced proficiency in one or more EDA tools: Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, OrCAD or PADS.
- Solid grounding in high-current power routing, creepage and clearance, high‑voltage layout, differential pairs, controlled impedance, high-speed interfaces, EMC practice, thermal management and DFM.
- Experience with power electronics (e.g. AC/DC, DC/DC) and with digital controllers such as FPGAs, DSPs or MCUs.
- Sound analytical and problem-solving ability, with clear communication.
- Curiosity, initiative and a drive to keep learning.
Nice to have
- Power modules, GaN or SiC devices
- Liquid‑cooled electronics
- HDI board technology
