Purpose
To support continuous improvement and operational excellence activities to deliver site’s productivity improvement and financial targets. The OE specialist is the change agent to deploy GPS Standards and the use of lean tools to support factory flow, performance management and strategy deployment
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement programs to drive a culture of continuous improvement.
- Lead cross functional teams to solve complex problems and achieve improvement goals. Facilitate workshops and kaizens with cross functional teams.
- Lead major CIFs and/or accelerators on site to drive improvements and business benefits.
- Coach staff on continuous improvement based the application of the 4-step improvement framework:
- Able to translate site goals to relevant teams that have meaning to their day to day work and contribution.
- Able to use facts and data to diagnose the current state in the context of these goals in order to understand the obstacles and opportunities that could be addressed to close the gap to target.
- Able to define a clear next target condition and select the critical few problems to solve.
- Able to apply effective problem solving to solve the critical few problems and verify the results using data.
- Within area of responsibility, review current work practices to identify areas for improvement. Devise and test solutions and roll out new ways of working.
- Conduct or coach staff on value stream mapping, process mapping, identify inefficiencies in productivity focusing particularly on 4Ms (Man, Method, Machine, Material). Update Value Stream Map and Process Map timely to reflect actual current conditions.
- Carry out or coach staff on time and motion studies to identify and reduce waste to support productivity improvements; namely, reducing waste to manage inventory control, door-to-door time, yield and manpower efficiencies.
- Work with function heads to set stretched challenges for individuals and teams that inspire a step change in performance.
- Hold periodic, focused reviews with leadership team to assess progress and status and issues in achieving their goals with the use of robust project tracking system and dashboard as part of site strategy deployment
- Accountable for performance management dashboards for the sites. Responsible for the preparation of monthly KPI reporting for sites.
- Deliver GPS and other OE training. Coach and develop staff in application of GPS standards and change management. Engage all employees to adopt lean concepts and tools.
- Coach staff on using DMAIC for problem solving and support teams in performing root cause analysis to resolve problems. Provide guidance to ensure the escalation process for problem solving is effective, standard work and 5S are embedded in the workflow and performance management is in use to surface issues.
- Responsible for quarterly self-assessment on GPS maturity level
- Support the business in establishing “best practices”. Share best practices, methods and ideas and benchmarking of industry best practices.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- At least degree in Chemistry/Engineering or related Science discipline
- GPS Standards and Lean Thinking
- Able to apply statistical methodologies
- Problem-solving skills (Orange or Green Belt certified preferred)
- Able to apply project management tools and skills
- Good knowledge of cross functional business processes
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes
- Work effectively with people, good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Teaching and coaching skills
- Good understanding of the business cost and financial impacts.
- Able to work in a diverse and dynamic environment
- Able to articulate what good performance looks like based on experience and appropriate benchmarks that inspires improvement.
