Roles & Responsibilities
Job Responsibilities
- Lead a team of mechanical/HVAC design engineers, designers, and 3D modelers.
- Support bidding processes for tendering projects, including technical clarifications.
- Lead concept design, FEED, FEED verification, or detailed design for mechanical disciplines.
- Review and approve mechanical and HVAC systems for offshore hull and marine applications.
- Ensure all engineering designs, documents, and drawings comply with client, project specifications, class requirements, local regulations, and international standards.
- Review and approve mechanical calculations for hull, marine mechanical, and HVAC equipment.
- Review and approve equipment specifications and datasheets for procurement.
- Review and approve vendor equipment technical proposals, bid evaluations, and equipment selection.
- Lead equipment layout and material handling studies.
- Review and approve equipment layouts and 3D models.
- Review and approve vendor-certified documents for design.
- Attend meetings with clients and EPC contractors to resolve design and interface issues.
- Participate in design reviews and safety workshops, including HAZID/HAZOP, 3D model reviews, and regulatory compliance workshops.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to develop designs and resolve interface issues.
- Coordinate with project management to ensure timely delivery of design documents.
- Coordinate scope changes and project variations.
- Support site engineering at shipyards or vendors to resolve design issues.
- Perform other tasks assigned by superiors within scope of practice.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of experience in basic and detailed design in shipbuilding, marine & offshore, or oil & gas industries.
- Experience with a range of marine and offshore structures, participating in at least 3 offshore projects.
- Diploma in mechanical engineering or related field.
- Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills.
- Proficient in English communication, both written and verbal.
- Mandarin skills are a plus, especially for communication with colleagues in China.
- Proficient in Navisworks, CAD, MS Office, and PowerPoint.
- Skilled in 3D modeling software such as Aveva Marine, E3D, or Intergraph Smart 3D.
- Knowledge of offshore design standards and regulations (DNV, ABS, BV, CCS, API, ASME, ISO, MARPOL).
- Familiarity with marine/HVAC equipment for offshore applications.
- Understanding of shipyard fabrication, equipment lifting, and construction sequences.
- Willingness to work at project sites or overseas as required, including SEA, China, or Europe.
