Position Summary

As a Senior Manufacturing Equipment Engineer, you will provide technical leadership in smart manufacturing systems within a high-volume consumables environment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and maintaining optical, mechanical, electrical, and fluidics systems, while driving improvements in equipment uptime and reliability. You will lead and support new product introduction (NPI) and equipment performance enhancement initiatives, applying engineering principles to resolve complex manufacturing and equipment challenges. Additionally, you will be responsible for training and mentoring Technicians and Engineers to ensure performance standards are met, while also providing effective leadership and supervision to your assigned team.

Position Responsibilities

• Complete required training (e.g. cGMP, safety and work instructions, etc.) within a stipulated time frame.
• Execute tasks strictly following cGMP, Quality, Safety and Work instruction requirements.
• Ensure employees follow safety, quality requirement, and all applicable company policies at all times.
• Ensure proper housekeeping and maintain cleanliness (6S) of the working area.
• Timely report/ elevate any concerns (work-related or personal).
• Meet daily production schedule and performance expectation.
• Able to take on additional tasks or responsibilities when required.
• Competent to guide technician in performing maintenance activities.
• Develop solutions to restore and sustain optimal functionality of manufacturing equipment and systems.
• Demonstrates the ability to identify and qualify alternative replacements for equipment parts, executing required changes through established change control processes

Improvement work: Participate and lead improvement initiatives across areas under broad direction. Facilitate an organization's systems and processes relating to continuous improvement (e.g. 6S) and coach team members toward continuous improvement. Analyse work practices beyond own scope of work for innovation and improvement opportunities with broad supervision. Develop work instructions for each type of equipment. Incident investigation and reporting: Lead a cross-functional investigation team and able to submit a formal report under broad supervision. Mentor team members on good investigation & reporting skills. Adapt different techniques and concepts in technical writing for effective engagement with individuals and/or teams. Lead and mentor a group of team members to meet production KPI and corporate goals & targets: Assist and provide technical support to the shift to meet daily production target and shift KPIs with some guidance. Co-ordinate & prioritize activities based on production, equipment and supply to meet the objectives.

Learning and Development: Responsible for the skill development of the team. Able to provide guidance to Technician and Engineer on PLC and automation equipment troubleshooting. Develop On the job (OJT) training programmes for Engineer. Exhibits strong proficiency in maintaining and repairing complex smart manufacturing equipment, and in formulating sustainable solutions for recurring equipment problems. Implement improvements to the existing equipment maintenance processes with broad supervision. Participate in the design of automation equipment to improve product quality, cycle time, and cost.

Data Collection and Analysis: Leverages advanced data analysis techniques to convert raw and complex operational data into strategic insights that optimize equipment reliability, efficiency, and overall operational effectiveness. Demonstrates the ability to develop innovative solutions for complex problems. Lead technical root cause analysis, incident investigations, and solving problems on issues. Be a role model for Technicians and Junior Engineers.

• Advanced understanding on Electrical / Electronics / Mechanical / Pneumatic
• Ensure compliance with cGMP, Quality, work safety instructions & practices at all times.

• Experience in working on automatic control systems.
• Experience in troubleshooting PLC (e.g. Beckhoff or Allen Bradley PLC) and HMI process control automation system.
• Experience working on Server/Client and Infrastructure will be an added advantage.
• Ability to draft engineering drawings.
• Complete tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
• High level of discipline and integrity.
• Able to undertake multiple tasks.
• Able to undergo job rotation/ cross training.
• Able to work in noisy environment with appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE).
• Able to work in chemical environment with appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE).
• Must be able to identify different colors for work purposes.
• In Illumina, we handle components/chemicals with different colors, and it is necessary to be able to differentiate and identify the correct components/chemicals (using visual) during operation.
• Possess a positive attitude and sense of urgency.
• Meticulous, keen attention to details and organized.
• Be agreeable to work 12 hours (from 0800 to 2015 for the day shift and from 2000 to 0815 for the night shift) rotating shifts (Monthly rotations from day to night and vice versa) with staggered break times in accordance with the roster when required.
• Able to safely lift and handle weights up to 15 kg, with occasional requirements to manage heavier loads.

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills

• Diploma or equivalent in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical or Mechatronics.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical or Mechatronics will have added advantage.
• 10+ years for Diploma or 4+ years for Bachelor’s degree of working experience in manufacturing/production environment.
• Experience in GMP controlled manufacturing / production environment.
• Exposure to data analytics, including the ability to analyze equipment performance, identify trends, and support data-driven decision making, is an added advantage.
• Experience or familiarity with predictive maintenance methodologies (e.g., condition monitoring, failure prediction, reliability analysis) to improve equipment uptime and operational efficiency is preferred.
• Knowledge or exposure to agentic AI development, intelligent automation, or AI-driven optimization in manufacturing environments will be considered an added advantage.
• Familiarity with digital and analytics tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), Python, Power BI, Tableau, and Power Automate for data analysis, visualization, and workflow automation is an added advantage.
• Exposure to application, coding language and dashboard development tools such as python, Streamlit, Angular, and NestJS for building data-driven applications or internal tools is an added advantage.
