This role leads to actionable recommendations that shape our future strategy and portfolio decisions. It plays a critical role in driving and informing our vision and strategy for our portfolio, including open access and emerging business models.The Senior Manager, Portfolio Impact, applies a financial, operational, and customer lens to our current and future portfolio strategy, articulating the impact that current and coming models, policies, and services will have at both the title and portfolio levels. This role works with colleagues from across the business (e.g., Publishing Development, Partner Publishing, and Business Analytics & Enablement teams) to develop strategic insights that result in recommendations for senior leadership to grow revenue, improve profitability, and deliver on our long-term strategic goals.This role supports and collaborates with the Director, Models & Impact on all aspects of scenario planning and impact assessment as the Models & Impact team. The team highlights complex, multidisciplinary challenges to the business and specific areas of the portfolio with respect to the adoption of new models, policies, and services. The Senior Manager, Portfolio Impact, proactively partners with appropriate teams (e.g., Finance, Sales, Solutions, Author Operations) to present solutions.How you will make an impact: Conduct impact analysis on significant changes in the publishing ecosystem, including financial, publishing, and operational impacts. Enables preparedness within Research Publishing for predicted impacts. Undertakes modelling to provide insight on proposed changes to policy, strategy, and models at title and portfolio level. Enables the Research Publishing (RP) business (and the Portfolio Strategy team) to determine go/no go on the adoption of policies and business model evolution. Analyze financial performance data, at title and portfolio level, and draw out recommendations to improve performance. Demonstrates the impact of policy decisions on business models, products and services, and the wider business strategy, to determine, in partnership with Finance, OA Leadership, Sales, RP Customer groups, and other stakeholders, when a model, policy, or service is appropriate for roll out or not. Makes recommendations when financial performance at title or portfolio level is below expectations. Models the impact of new or proposed policies, business models, and service developments to ensure that the business (and by extension the colleagues within the business) have a clear understanding of the financial and business impact of publishing strategy decisions. Reviews the success of existing models/policies and proactively makes recommendations for viable alternatives and/or improvements.What We Are Looking For Bachelor's Degree. 5+ years of work experience in the scholarly publishing industry Proficient with building models in Excel. Familiarity with extracting data from reports and apps (e.g., Power Bi) Ability to digest and interpret both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Ability to see patterns and the big picture. Creative thinking and ability to solve complex, multidisciplinary problems; using in-depth analytical or creative thinking to identify innovative solutions. Able to communicate complex concepts and negotiate with others to adopt a different point of view. Analytical skills, ability to synthesize large and varied data sets Understand the importance of data flow, data integrity, and business process efficiency. Understands and monitors business activities and processes that drive current and future financial performance and productivity. Understanding of financial models underpinning journal publishing.
