Job description

OVERVIEW

Our client, a financial institution wholly-owned by the Japanese government, provides a wide range of financial products and services including senior debt, mezzanine, equity, as well as financial advisory services.

The company is responsible for sourcing deals through developing and enhancing the local business network and supporting execution of relevant deals that are in line with the APAC strategy.

They are currently looking for a suitable candidate for a Sr. Manager/Vice President position in the Corporate Finance & Strategic Investment (APAC) Department. The position is mainly a client coverage role, so the candidate must have a wide variety of understanding about different products including corporate loans, private placements, mezzanine financing, equity financing, structured financing, asset financing, and fund investment.

Please note that the candidate often interacts with the Japanese team as well as local APAC nationals in both Japanese and English, so high proficiency in both languages is required.

The candidate will cover the APAC region excluding mainland China and may need to travel across the region for a few days to a week per month to attend meetings with existing/potential clients, local banks, and other partners for various purposes.

Responsibilities
  1. Overall deal process/task flow: Grasp the deal process thoroughly and understand debt/equity financing criteria for various deals, building credit/investment stories independently; can share roles with seniors for key areas of the process.
  2. Sourcing: Originate transactions aligned with the bank's criteria on their own with initiative, effectively and aggressively; support from seniors may be necessary on some occasions but perform most of the origination activities independently.
  3. Material preparation: Effectively prepare entire credit and internal approval materials and present well internally.
  4. Documentation: Prepare all legal documents and effectively coordinate with lawyers independently.
  5. Negotiation/Coordination: Negotiate terms effectively with initiative.
  6. Administration: Conduct all administrative tasks required (including folder management and internal approval) independently.
  7. Knowledge: Accumulate overall required knowledge (credit analysis, financial accounting, finance, accounting/tax, legal, settlement) and find internal/external sources to acquire new knowledge.
  8. Leadership: Act as a team leader for subordinates at the project level; lead juniors effectively.
  9. Management: Aggressively acquire internal rules of DBJ and effectively manage the team; support seniors when constructing the team's strategy with a good understanding of the direction of each industry and company.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Law, or relevant fields is required.
  2. More than seven years of work experience in corporate loans, private placements, mezzanine financing, equity financing, structured financing, asset financing, fund investment, management consulting, etc.
  3. Experience in multiple areas of the products/sectors mentioned above is appreciated.
  4. Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people, demonstrating team spirit, accountability, and integrity.
  5. Ability to drive logical thought processes in various tasks.
  6. Literate in Computer & MS Office applications.
  7. Excellent communication skills in Japanese and English, as the position requires communication, reading, understanding, responding, and presenting in these two languages to partners and clients in Southeast Asia and Japan.
