About the role
The Cross-Commodity team sits in the central Commercial Market Analysis team and generates short-to-medium term market insights (up to 5 years). This incorporates supply and competitor analysis, demand forecasts (including downstream sectors), trading support, and price forecasting. The team's focus is to leverage these insights and analysis to support Commercial decision-making and generate value across Sales & Marketing, Procurement, and Marine & Logistics. The Market Analysis team also provides short-to-medium term market context and commodity price forecasts across the Group.
We are looking for a Senior Manager, Market Analysis - Cross Commodity to join a high performing team, support cash generation and business growth through market insight, and inform Commercial Strategy.
Reporting to the Head of Market Analysis, you will:
Deepen and broaden our understanding of global and regional macroeconomic and industrial sector trends.
Develop and maintain regular research using our vast array of external research and internal datasets to draw market conclusions that affect most parts of our business.
Monitor market development and industrial and trade policy and keep the broader Market Analysis and Strategy teams and extended stakeholder group informed of changes/news/intelligence, as appropriate.
Support multiple stakeholders, including Group Finance and Investor Relations, to deliver market updates for senior management and external reporting.
Collaborate with other Market Analysis teams to draw cross-commodity insights and share best practices; additionally, collaborate with Economics teams to bridge with long-run analysis.
Manage subscription budget, procurement, and vendor relationships, providing an improved centralised view on subscriptions across Commercial
Be armed with resources and provide strong leadership, and develop capability in the team to achieve the above goals.
About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
University degree in either economics, technical, or commercial discipline.
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience within a commodity-focused MNC or the metals and mining industry.
Deep understanding of economics, industrial trends, and global commodity markets.
Proven relevant experience and analytical skills with the ability to critically analyze data and identify trends and key drivers.
Proven ability to present concepts and results clearly.
Excellent and proven project management skills.
Proven ability to lead a team and develop capabilities to achieve results.
A proven ability to further develop existing relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
Experience working in an international setting will be an advantage.
Excellent IT skills, including the use of MS Office and Power BI.
Advanced written and spoken English.

Headquartered in Singapore and integrated with Rio Tinto’s assets, hubs, and offices globally, our Commercial group works hand-in-hand with our product groups to ensure both the amount and types of products we produce meet our customers’ needs, and manage the trade-off between volumes, quality, cost, and capital expenditure.
