Job description

What the role is:

Established in 1859, the Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) played an important historical role in the introduction and promotion of many plants of economic value to Southeast Asia, including the Para rubber tree. Over the years, the Gardens has continued to introduce and rejuvenate its horticultural attractions while continuing its mission of connecting plants and people.

Today, the 82-hectare Gardens is a key civic and community space, and an international tourist destination. It is also an important institution for tropical botanical and horticultural research, education and conservation.

As the Senior Manager/Manager/Events & Exhibitions, you will lead the strategic planning and execution of exhibitions across the Singapore Botanic Gardens, including the Botanical Art Gallery, Centre for Ethnobotany, and Forest Discovery Centre, serving as the central coordinator for the exhibition spaces.

What you will be working on:

You will lead the end-to-end curation of exhibitions across the Botanical Art Gallery, Centre for Ethnobotany, and Forest Discovery Centre. This includes:

• Leading the strategic planning and execution of exhibitions across multiple SBG venues, including research, curation, and implementation
• Building and maintaining relationships with institutions, artists, and contributors for exhibition partnerships and loans
• Conducting independent research on exhibition themes, objects, and narratives
• Creating engaging exhibition content through copywriting and editing of curatorial texts, captions, and promotional materials
• Coordinating with external vendors for exhibition design, fabrication, installation, and programming
• Planning and executing exhibition-related events and programmes, including guided tours and community outreach initiatives
• Coordinating content and consolidating efforts for synergy and efficiency across exhibition spaces
• Managing exhibition calendars, budgets, project milestones, and deliverables

What we are looking for:

• Strong research and curatorial experience with demonstrated ability to develop engaging exhibition narratives and interpretive content
• Track record in project management with proven success in delivering exhibitions on time and within budget
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement audience engagement strategies and inclusive programming that drives meaningful participation
• Excellent communication skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with various teams
• Knowledge of or interest in Singapore Botanic Gardens, botanical art and ethnobotany would be an advantage
• Flexibility to work staggered hours, weekends, and after office hours when required
