Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for externally manufactured APIs, partnering with CMOs and stakeholders.
• Lead API technology transfer projects and supplier qualification activities.
• Provide technical expertise across product lifecycle to ensure robust, compliant processes.
• Drive investigations related to deviations, process performance and supplier issues with corrective actions.
• Review manufacturing docs, reports and data for technical accuracy and compliance.
• Lead cross-functional teams, manage timelines and project risks.
• Support validation, change management, risk assessments and continuous improvement.
• Identify opportunities to improve process robustness, performance and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain and Engineering to deliver projects.

About the Opportunity

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Manager, External Supply Technical Lead to provide technical leadership across its global network of external API manufacturing partners. This role is responsible for overseeing technical activities related to outsourced API manufacturing, ensuring product quality, supply continuity, regulatory compliance, and successful execution of technology transfer and supplier qualification projects.

This position is ideal for professionals with strong expertise in API manufacturing, Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT), Technical Services, Process Engineering, or Technology Transfer, who enjoy working in a global, cross-functional environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical lead for externally manufactured Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), partnering closely with Contract Manufacturing Organisations (CMOs) and global stakeholders.
• Lead API technology transfer projects, source change initiatives, and qualification of new manufacturing partners to support business growth and supply continuity.
• Provide technical expertise throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring manufacturing processes remain robust, compliant, and efficient.
• Drive technical investigations related to manufacturing deviations, process performance, product quality, and supplier-related issues, while implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Review manufacturing documentation, technical reports, analytical data, process changes, and specifications to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
• Lead cross-functional teams in delivering technical projects, managing timelines, project risks, and stakeholder communications.
• Support process validation, change management, risk assessments (including FMEA), and continuous process improvement initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve process robustness, manufacturing performance, and cost efficiencies across the external manufacturing network.
• Collaborate closely with Quality, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Process Development, and Engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Evaluate supplier technical capabilities and contribute to strengthening long-term external manufacturing partnerships.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline. An advanced degree is an advantage.
• Proven experience within the pharmaceutical industry, preferably supporting API manufacturing or external manufacturing operations.
• Strong technical knowledge in one or more of the following: API Manufacturing Technology Transfer Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT)Technical Services Process Engineering Process Validation External Manufacturing / CMO Management
• Experience leading technical investigations, deviation management, root cause analysis, and change management activities.
• Hands-on experience supporting process validation, supplier qualification, technology transfer, or manufacturing process optimisation.
• Familiarity with GMP regulations, pharmaceutical quality systems, and regulatory requirements.
• Strong project management and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across global cross-functional teams.
• Experience with Operational Excellence methodologies (e.g. DMAIC, Lean Six Sigma) and risk management tools such as FMEA will be advantageous.
