Job Summary

This is a global position and will be required to work with stakeholders across the world. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing relationships, operations, sourcing and performance of a portfolio of Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs), with diverse technologies, located globally. This position will work closely with other cross-functional Leads eg, Supply Chain Planners, Quality, EHS, Global Technical, Regulatory, Finance and Customers at Business Units and Markets and be responsible for managing multiple virtual site operating teams (VSOT’s) along with the indirect management of the enabling function colleagues who sit on those teams.

Job Description and Responsibilities

Portfolio Management and Sourcing

  • Work across broad cross-functional organizations (External Supply Virtual Site Operation Team (VSOT) , Finance, Global Technical and Engineering, EHS, Quality etc) to gather information and build supply database , including pricing details based on the Bill-of-Materials, budgeted volume vs forecasted volume vs actual shipped quantities. Provide the annual budget pricing to the finance team to support budget submissions.
  • Responsible for global vision and management of assigned portfolio to deliver value through development and execution of sourcing strategies and strategic supplier relationship management to achieve continuous supply at optimum cost.
  • Devise strategic solution to minimize the global patient/financial/strategic impact for Viatris, in a fair and impartial manner and in compliance to SOX requirement.
  • Uses applicable Sourcing Management tools in creation and implementation of source/procurement plan to manage assurance of supply, service, quality, cost, innovation and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead and drive sourcing strategies and activities. Conduct RFI/RFP or RFQ including analysis, negotiation and recommendation of award, and drafting of contracts using corporate contract template.
  • Support technology transfer in collaboration with Technical, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain and other cross- functional teams.
  • Manage spend including cost reduction and meeting cost containment targets as well as year-to-year budget improvement. Proactive on cost management through a Total Cost Acquisition approach and improvement initiatives.
  • Timely submission of budget pricing , Purchase Price Variance (PPV) forecast, including including long range opportunity assessment and any other ad-hoc management reports
  • Manage supply including alternate sourcing, developing of supply mitigation plan and working with VSOT on inventory build-up if required.
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities with CMOs
  • Validate the financial impact and secure the opportunities are captured and reported in the Long-Range Opportunity Analysis and the Operational Plan
  • Oversee execution and implementation, lead the team for execution as appropriate
  • Maintain awareness of potential new sourcing opportunities and identify strategic sourcing partners who share common vision/values. Maintain awareness of trends within contractors and awareness of the industry.

Supplier Management

  • Build and maintain good business relationship with both local and global suppliers.
  • Manage suppliers’ performance against business requirement, ensures adequate inclusion of diversity suppliers in RFP etc.
  • Work with suppliers to identify Cost Improvement opportunities.
  • Lead/Support VSOT for vendors’ prompt resolutions to issues.
  • Ensure GMP and GDP compliance by suppliers at all times
  • Support audit and audit responses, engage in gap assessment and develop action plans
  • Perform supplier financial health check
  • Conduct vendor evaluation and selection process
  • Work with TPQ colleagues to ensure that quality audits are conducted, the action items are followed up for completion, the quality agreement is in place for commercial supply and the vendors remain compliant with Viatris quality requirements.
  • Work with EHS colleagues to ensure that EHS audits are conducted, the action items are followed up for completion, the Viatris required standards are established at vendor’s site and the vendors remain compliant with Viatris EHS requirements.

Operations

  • The incumbent is responsible for the relationship with, and the performance of the CMOs in their portfolio. Short-term tactical oversight as well as long-term strategic planning with the CMOs must secure that every CMO contributes to achieving the External Manufacturing performance targets and strategic objectives. The Candidate will also manage the VSOT through positive influencing skills.
  • Lead VSOTs. The External Manufacturing Lead is accountable for the results of the VSOT including delivering on the financial/ cost and supply commitments of the VSOT. The activities and responsibilities of the VSOT include:
  • Development and execution of manufacturing and supply plans and meet market demand for product and meet or exceed supply performance target
  • Development and execution of tactical plans for continuous improvement of CMO shop floor performance in the areas of product quality, environmental health and safety, sustainability, compliance, customer service and product cost.
  • Review of the status of deviations which impact or may affect product supply.
  • Secure that product supply, quality, compliance, and cost issues are adequately addressed by mobilizing the necessary resources for support in all required areas. Lead these cross-functional teams where required.
  • Secure effective communication of key product supply issues to stakeholders – this includes correct and timely updating the weekly reports and exec summaries o Provide technical and management leadership to the VSOT’s, both in their own area of operations but also in related areas of quality/CMC/GTE.
  • Track the financial performance of responsible outsourcing products and report results
  • Participate and support procurement in commercial negotiations with CMO’s
  • Ensure the commitments to the customers, regarding product supply and quality, are met or exceeded.
  • Develop CMO’s to improve their EHS and Quality standards on a continuous basis. o Develop and maintain the documentation system for the team. The documentation system shall include meeting minutes, BRM presentations, etc.
  • Engage the CMOs in promoting Environmental Sustainability related projects and set goals to reduce waste, their carbon footprint and/or reduce water usage each year.
  • Shares knowledge with VSOT teams across the various disciplines of quality/ Supply chain/ procurement and technical services and encourage other VSOT team members to do the same.

Market Knowledge and Insight

  • Use market intelligence, financial information and business analytics to create robust predictive modeling and financial evaluation of opportunities
  • Share market intelligence and trend to team members for development of breakthrough strategies.

Leadership and Stakeholder Management

  • Successfully holds team member accountable through influencing in the absence of direct reporting relationship.
  • Effectively drive short and long term plans to support the business
  • Partner management to champion long term strategic vision and goals
  • Actively seeks ways to support management to resolve actual or potential barriers in processes, structure or systems to increase team performance.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to support the sourcing process to ensure maximum value is captured from sourcing events
  • Coordinate with other functions and impacted stakeholders to assure timely implementation and compliance with the agreed to sourcing strategies.
  • Work with other functions and departments to in development of operating budgets .

  • Degree in Chemical/Chemistry/ Pharmacy/Biotechnology Engineering
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills (leadership, integrity, team orientation, flexibility, creativity; collaborative approaches; strong analytical skills; ability to understand business issues and processes; knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in managing Strategic Sourcing and CMOs in a complex environment in pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong technical knowledges on Contract Manufacturing (API/FDF), Key Starting Materials(KSMs), raw materials and packaging
  • Demonstrated capability to thrive in a complex and matrix environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of procurement systems, processes and procedures.
  • Strong English communication skills (verbal and writing)
  • SAP experience preferred
