Role Summary
As our first APAC Senior legal counsel (based in Singapore), you will report to our General Counsel (who is based in France) and work closely with our technical and business teams, especially our Singapore-based Vice President of Revenue - APAC to support our continued growth in the region.
You will be instrumental in structuring, drafting and negotiating our agreements with suppliers, partners and clients and, working closely with other members of the Legal team and other internal stakeholders, ensuring that our products and business comply with emerging AI regulations in APAC.
Key responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate, and provide strategic advice on a wide range of contracts, including AI licensing agreements, complex partnership agreements, and other AI-related service agreements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including AI engineers, data scientists, product managers, and business teams to ensure legal and regulatory compliance in the deployment of AI technologies in APAC.
- Stay updated on and ensure compliance with the latest AI-related legal and regulatory developments in APAC, and provide awareness and guidance to the organization on potential risks and opportunities.
- Provide training and support to the business on legal and compliance matters related to AI and our business.
- Help on other legal topics as needed (e.g., labor law, corporate, especially under Singapore rules)
Qualifications and skills
- Educational Background: Bachelor degree or above (LLB, LLM, Juris Doctor preferred) from an accredited law school and admission to practice law at least in Singapore.
- Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence: A solid understanding of artificial intelligence technologies, including machine learning, natural language processing and their applications is essential. Strong knowledge of other relevant areas of law, such as data privacy, intellectual property and fair use, contract law and liability, regulatory, compliance and ethical considerations.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex legal and technical issues related to AI and to identify potential legal risks and solutions is important. Candidates should be detail-oriented and have strong problem-solving skills.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to communicate legal advice to internal teams, and present complex legal concepts in a clear and understandable manner. Business oriented with strong negotiation skills.
- International mindset: A wide APAC experience is a strong plus. Proficiency in another language relevant to Southeast Asia would be an advantage.
- Adaptability: Given the rapidly evolving nature of AI technologies and the legal landscape surrounding them, candidates should be adaptable and willing to continuously learn and update their skills and knowledge. Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Proactive, flexible, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ethical Awareness: A strong understanding of ethical considerations related to AI, such as fairness, transparency, accountability, and bias mitigation, is important.
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in a related technology or AI-focused environment.
