Job description

Job Description:

  • Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills with colleagues.
  • Promote the fostering of a team environment that enhances partnership and co-operation.
  • Check, sort, and disassemble soiled instruments according to instructions for use.
  • Pay thorough and special attention to the cleaning of cannulated instruments.
  • Use the appropriate cleaning method to ensure instruments are processed safely and without damage.
  • Inspect surgical instruments for cleanliness, functionality, or defects before assembling.
  • Assemble, pack, and ensure the accuracy of instruments and sets according to the instrument set checklist and document items packed.
  • Properly load and unload items from washer disinfectors and steam sterilizers.
  • Maintain, monitor, and validate equipment adhering to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Store, check, and replenish supplies and consumables properly.
  • Assist with inventory management of equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Perform daily cleaning of equipment, trolleys, and work surfaces.
  • Mop the floor in the decontamination area when wet and clean up any fluid spills immediately.
  • Practice standard precautions and hand hygiene consistently.
  • Wear proper PPE when performing all functions of decontamination.
  • Ensure proper waste disposal in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Operate equipment following established protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Identify and report common causes of hazards.
  • Adhere to workplace safety and health regulations.
  • Attend annual fire safety briefings and drill exercises.
  • Adopt safe work practices to prevent accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
  • Check and ensure sufficient stock of consumables.
  • Ensure stock is rotated on a “First In, First Out” basis.
  • Report defective instruments and equipment to the supervisor.
  • Exercise economy and appropriate use of utilities and supplies.
  • Provide supportive information and guidance to newly recruited staff.
  • Assist in guiding and teaching new and junior staff.
  • Attend relevant training and in-service programmes as scheduled by the supervisor.
  • Inform the supervisor of any problems or incidents encountered.
  • Participate in department and organization activities.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Possess Higher NITEC / NITEC / GCE N / O / A Level
  • Relevant experience as an Instrument Technician will be a great advantage.
