Job summary

Public Service Division seeks a Senior/Engineer to join the Healthcare Engineering Center within the School of Engineering to design, develop and test electronic hardware and embedded systems for healthcare applications.

The role involves leading funded R&D and collaborations with industry, healthcare, clinical and government partners, mentoring engineers and students, and delivering practical technologies with strong safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Electrical/Electronic Engineering degree or related discipline.
• 5+ years in electronics development with hands-on hardware and R&D leadership.
• Experience in circuit design, PCB design/fabrication, and embedded systems programming.
• Firmware development and system integration experience.
• Strong analytical and independent yet collaborative work style.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; grant proposal experience a plus.
• Healthcare engineering or medical devices experience is a plus.
• Ability to translate research into practical prototypes or commercial solutions.
• Passion for innovation and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test electronic hardware and embedded systems for healthcare applications.
• Develop, troubleshoot, and validate prototypes and instrumentation systems.
• Analyze and resolve complex technical challenges independently.
• Lead funded R&D, industry collaboration, and consultancy projects with planning and execution.
• Prepare technical documentation including schematics, layouts, BOMs, and test plans.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to translate technologies.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, staff, and students.
• Identify and develop technologies with potential for IP and industry impact.
• Serve as subject matter expert on electronics, embedded systems, and instrumentation.
