Job summary

A leading shipping company seeks a Chartering Assistant to support the chartering team in managing vessel operations. The role involves analyzing the market, preparing meeting materials, and negotiating contracts. Ideal candidates will have a degree in Maritime Studies, experience in shipping operations, and excellent interpersonal skills for client engagement.

Job description

  • Supporting and backing up the Chartering team lead to ensure profitable employment of managed/operated vessel
  • Provide analytics work in support of our business trades
  • During this initial period, the candidate will acquire a strong foundation before moving on to more advanced responsibilities in the future.

Duties

  • Learning daily ship operations process
  • Assist spot/period tonnages chartering process
  • Analyze the time charter market
  • Prepare the regular meetings material
  • Meet the core cargo / tonnage owners
  • Vessel Employment (Managed/Operated vessels): identify & fix best available businesses through familiarisation with vessel's capabilities/restrictions and itinerary, contact with owners/operators and international shipbroking firms, and intelligent projection/analysis of market trend.
  • Chartering-in Tonnage to cover cargoes in the book (Time Charter/Voyage): Identify potential tonnage for chartering-in through direct contact with owners/operators and international shipbroking firms.
  • Project/Contract negotiation & development.
  • Secure forward cargoes/COA/ships to cover future ship/cargo position.
  • Secure cargoes/COA to expand fleet coverage.
  • Taking long or short position on own fleet or third party vessel to make profit and expand fleet portfolio.
  • Evaluation of shipbroker services, coverings and policy to provide effective marketing of requirements.
  • Critical analysis of statistics, records and trade studies and product/client/work research.
  • Assisting the Research team on market analysis and forecast
  • Negotiate main terms of business and charter party details with owners/charterers.
  • Finalisation of the contract/charter parties to reduce risk exposure.
  • Check charterers’ background to ensure conformity with company standards.
  • Check owner's background to ensure conformity with company standards.
  • Check vessel capabilities/restrictions and itinerary to evaluate commercial viability.
  • Enhance & ensure compliance of control systems/procedures and risk management criteria for monitoring and controlling risk factors.
  • Ensure proper handling of claims by Post Fixture.
  • Monitor and track market events running analytics report to support our current and new to be develop trade lane.

Requirements

  • 2 years of shipping operations or related experience would be beneficial
  • Multi-lingua advantages - spoken, read and write which will facilitate communication with respective counterparty
  • Inter-personal skills and ability to socialize with different tier and type of clients
  • Degree (Preferably in Maritime Studies)
