As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining, upgrading, and commissioning mechanical systems in power and process plants. Your responsibilities will span turbine overhauls, valve and pump servicing, balance-of-plant operations, and project execution. Responsibilities:
Design and Engineering
- Lead the mechanical design and specification of power plant equipment (boilers, turbines, heat exchangers, piping systems).
- Review and approve technical drawings, datasheets, and material selections.
- Ensure design compliance with applicable codes (ASME, API, ANSI) and plant standards.
Maintenance and Reliability Engineering
- Develop and manage preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for mechanical systems.
- Analyse mechanical failures and conduct root cause investigations (RCA).
- Optimise the reliability and availability of rotating and static equipment (pumps, valves, compressors, fans).
Project Management
- Plan and execute mechanical engineering projects, including equipment upgrades, retrofits, and system expansions.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams during procurement, installation, and commissioning phases.
- Monitor project scope, budget, and schedule, ensuring timely delivery.
Operations Support
- Provide technical guidance to operations teams during equipment startup, shutdown, and emergencies.
- Support day-to-day troubleshooting of mechanical issues and implement long-term solutions.
- Contribute to performance optimisation and energy efficiency improvements.
Safety, Compliance, and Quality
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations and standards.
- Participate in audits, HAZOP studies, and risk assessments.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and safety procedures.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Mentor junior engineers and provide on-the-job technical training.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (electrical, instrumentation, civil) to resolve interdisciplinary issues.
- Represent the mechanical discipline in technical meetings and plant reviews.
Documentation and Reporting
- Prepare technical reports, maintenance logs, RCA documentation, and engineering evaluations.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment history and performance.
- Support procurement with technical specifications and bid evaluations.
Qualifications:
Education
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Technical Skill
- Engineering Fundamentals: Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Mechanics of Materials
- CAD Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or Inventor
- FEA & Simulation: Experience with ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar tools
- Analysis & Calculations: Knowledge of engineering calculations (thermal, stress, flow, etc.)
- Control Systems & Instrumentation (basic understanding if involved in automation or process industry)
- Understanding of Industry Codes: ASME, ASTM, API, ISO standards
Practical and Field Experience
- Exposure to equipment such as pumps, valves, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers
- Hands-on involvement in fabrication, installation, testing, maintenance, or commissioning
- Experience reading P&ID, isometric drawings, and technical schematics
