Job summary

ST Engineering is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead design and integration of shipboard automation systems for marine projects. You will work on SMS interfaces, control room layouts, and platform automation, ensuring compliance with contractual specifications and marine standards.

The role requires hands-on experience in automation or marine environments, proficiency with industry protocols, and strong collaboration with clients and vendors.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical, Automation, or Electronics Engineering.
• Experience in Automation or Marine Industry.
• Knowledge of standard marine communication protocols (Modbus RTU/TCP, Profibus, RS422/RS485, CANbus, J1939).
• Proficiency with AutoCAD/Navisworks/AVEVA software.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and integrate shipboard automation with SMS and platform control.
• Review vendor proposals to ensure contractual and classification requirements are met.
• Coordinate with clients and vendors, conduct technical reviews and issue resolutions.
• Attend sea trials and travel to project sites as required.

Description:

Overall Purpose of Job:

Able to assessengineering problems and develops pragmatic solutions to resolve engineering related issues for shipboard Automation projects, and to ensure the designs are in accordance to contractual specifications and marine classification requirement.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for all automation related design, platform system integration and interface with the Ship Management System (SMS) and platform system related control and monitoring and logics, which includes basic and detail design :

• • SMS architecture
  • SMS functional description
  • I/O list
  • Integration of third party equipment / system with SMS
  • Conduct integration reviews with vendors and client
  • Control console design and control panel arrangement
  • Control room arrangement layout
  • Platform system automation design, system control and monitoring

• Responsible for ship safety and surveillance related systems, which includes:
  • Propulsion control system
  • Dynamic positioning system
  • CCTV system
  • Fire Detection System
  • Harbour Duty Surveillance System
• Review vendors technical proposal to ensure it meets the requirement
• Responsible for ensuring the Contractual technical requirement and Classification requirement of automation related design are fulfilled and within project schedule
• Liaise with client, internal engineering trades and vendors for project coordination
• Technical review and meetings with client and vendors during project execution to ensure requirement are fulfilled, provide solutions and resolve technical issues.

Other features of job (Shift or night work, travel, working conditions)

• Attend to local or oversea travels/deployment for project work (where required)
• Attend Sea Trials for a specified period (Where required)

Knowledge & Skills:

• Knowledge of Marine Electronics and Automation systems
• Knowledge in computer networking, control instrumentation and control system design
• Knowledge of standard communication protocols like Modbus RTU/TCP, Prrofibus, RS422, RS485, NEMA, CANbus, J1939
• Knowledge in Autocad, Naviswork, AVEVA model software
• Good Interpersonal Skills, problem solving skills and is a team player
• Good time management and able to meet tight deadlines

Experience

• Working experience in Automation or Marine Industry

Education, Qualifications and Special Training

• Degree in Electrical, Automation, Electronics Engineering
