Job summary

GovTech in Singapore is seeking a dedicated product designer embedded in a cross-functional team. You will design a suite of digital products spanning public websites, mobile apps, backend processes, and enforcement workflows used by government officers, town councils, and the public.

You will set design direction with mentorship from the Design Lead, partnering closely with product management and engineering.

Qualifications

• A degree or proven relevant experience in design, human-computer interaction, graphic design, design research, or a related field.
• End-to-end design capability from discovery to delivery.
• Proficiency in discovery and problem framing methods such as design thinking and service design.
• Proficiency in UX/UI tools including Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, and Miro.
• Ability to independently define and execute research plans, implement design systems, and prototype and test solutions.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Comfort with ambiguity, legacy systems, and cross-functional constraints in enterprise environments.
• Willingness to work in-office and collaborate as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Shape problem framing, user journeys, and design direction from discovery through to delivery across a diverse range of digital products.
• Work with the product manager and engineering lead to define product strategy and ensure the team is solving the right problems.
• Apply qualitative and quantitative user research and testing to ensure digital platforms meet the needs of all users and stakeholders.
• Translate complex user, business, and regulatory requirements into clear, modern flows and interfaces.
• Contribute to and evolve design patterns and standards aligned with Government Digital Service Standards.
• Collaborate with engineering and data leads to make informed decisions that work within technical constraints.
• Manage stakeholder relationships, facilitate conflicts, and advocate for users throughout the product lifecycle.
• Use AI tools both to support your own design process and as a design consideration within the products themselves.

GovTech is the lead agency driving Singapore's Smart Nation initiatives and public sector digital transformation. As the Centre of Excellence for Infocomm Technology and Smart Systems, it develops government capabilities in data science, AI, application development, smart city technology, digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity.

The role

This position is embedded within a cross-functional product team supporting the Municipal Services Office (MSO) under the Ministry of National Development (MND). You would be the dedicated designer for a suite of digital products spanning public-facing websites and mobile applications, backend operational processes, and enforcement workflows used by government officers, town councils, and members of the public. You would have autonomy over design direction and receive professional mentorship from the Design Lead, working closely with product management and engineering.

What you would do

• Shape problem framing, user journeys, and design direction from discovery through to delivery across a diverse range of digital products

• Experience in the Singapore public sector (desirable)
• Experience in a product-centric, Agile environment (desirable)
• Familiarity with designing with and for AI, and interest in current trends (desirable)
• Ability to coach and mentor more junior designers (desirable)
