What You’ll do (the role)

Summary

The APAC Energy Markets team plays a critical role in defining revenue opportunities and strategies to support our existing in country presence, in addition to expanding into new markets.

As the Power Markets Commercial Manager for the Asian region, you will be responsible for supporting the development and optimisation of the Lightsource bp generation and storage pipeline and portfolio in the region.

In this role you will have abroad and dynamic scope. You will be an integral member of the Lightsource bp APAC Energy Markets team and working closely with APAC colleagues across the various markets. You will work closely with our Business Development specialists, based in Singapore, evaluating new projects and new markets to grow the APAC asset portfolio.

Duties and responsibilities

• Evaluate market opportunities including commercial analysis of new markets in Asia, evolving policy environments and route to market for new Lightsource bp asset developments.
• Contribute to the development and lead the execution of the origination strategy for Lightsource bp’s Asian generation and storage portfolio.
• Develop and manage strong commercial relationships with counterparties and other key stakeholders across the sector to stay informed of customer needs, support profitable origination activities and position the Lightsource bp brand prominently in the market.
• Evaluate market conditions, counterparty feedback and outlook to understand market changes, identify and capitalize on new business opportunities in the region and identify new routes to market.
• Secure bankable PPAs, energy storage agreements, and other contractual structures to optimize generation revenues and manage risk.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including development, structured finance, operations and legal) to ensure alignment of commercial strategies with operational capabilities, in addition to maximizing financing options for new projects.
• Provide regular updates and briefings to senior management on market conditions and commercial opportunities to support new market entry and contracting for development projects across the target Asian markets.

Who we’re looking for

Knowledge

• Knowledge of and experience in at least, but preferably more than one, energy sector in selected Asian countries such as – Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India and Vietnam.
• Knowledge of offtakers and demand for utility scale renewables offtake.
• Experience and track record in originating energy PPAs and energy storage agreements.
• Demonstrated analytical and commercial acumen, with a track record of identifying and evaluating opportunities, risks, and structures to support energy development.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Relevant degree in finance, business, engineering, or a related field; MBA is a plus.

Experience

• Experience in analyzing established and evolving energy markets, including evaluating governmental priorities and policies targeting renewable energy and storage investment.
• Origination and negotiation of complex energy and storage offtake arrangements.
• Demonstrable experience building key client relationships within the energy sector and Corporate PPA environments.
• Experience working cross functionally with small teams to deliver detailed market analytics and new market entry strategies.
• Previous energy analytics experience is highly desirable.
