As the Senior Business Process Improvement Program Manager (Operational Excellence – MPS University Lead) you will be a core member of the Enterprise Capability Excellence team to guide, deploy, and execute the Medtronic Performance System. You will lead / co-lead the creation of training and content of the Medtronic Performance System, and develop competencies, and capabilities by aligning leadership behaviors to the desired OPEX culture.

You will work closely with the Regional and Site OpEx leaders to pilot, and deploy a comprehensive curriculum based on scheduled offerings and need-based classes/kaizen/workshops. You will be at the forefront of Medtronic’s Mission to Alleviate Pain, Restore Health, and Extend Life by developing the skills and competencies of our teams to deliver life-saving products.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Serve as the OpEx partner to global manufacturing and functions within the region.
  • Partner with global manufacturing and functional leaders to define priorities and accountability for MPS deployment.
  • Champion MPS maturity strategy for the region with the Regional Opex leader.
  • Regional Subject matter expert for MPS Capabilities.
  • Lead Regional Community of Practice/Best Practice sharing & deployment.
  • Partner with any internal improvement resources to develop training and content and align on messaging and material for MPS deployment.
  • Support sites/organizations within region on critical projects, improvement efforts (kaizen).
  • Deliver improvements in performance, process excellence, programmatic savings through building capability.
  • Coach sites and functions on “one best way” quantitative and qualitative self-assessments of OPEX effectiveness.
  • Leverage other functional OpEx teams as needed to improve cross functional alignment.
  • 25% Teach (MPS Leadership); 50% Kaizen (Workshop/Teaching) / MPS Maturity Assessment; 25% Coaching & MPS evolution.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

Requires broad management knowledge and experience to lead project teams in one department.

Typically has mastery level knowledge and skills within a specific technical or professional discipline with broad understanding of other areas within the job function.

Requires a bachelor’s degree and minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.

  • Proven regional Operational Excellence strategic leadership.
  • Proven Technical Competence in Opex, Lean & Six Sigma: Six Sigma Green Belt Certification and advanced lean certification.
  • Ability to teach facilitate Kaizen, coach MPS methods, train MPS content relatable to manufacturing & functional areas.
  • Experience working in manufacturing/operations and business process.
  • Ability to Collaborate and Network across functions at various levels in the organization (individual contributor to regional leadership).
  • Lean certified/trained with 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • Strong background in holistic operational excellence structures (TPM, BPM, DBS, TPS, etc.) and the associated tools/techniques.
  • Experience inclusive of leading/deploying operational excellence/lean at a global or regional level in a manufacturing/operations environment for 5+ years.
  • Gravitas to work and influence regional leadership.
  • Ability to build a strategic roadmap that will yield a journey map for deploying the programs and standardization that meets the business needs by prioritization and focused development.
  • Proficient and experienced in coaching and leading quantitative and qualitative assessments of Opex effectiveness at sites and functions.
  • Solid change management, coaching, and mentoring competency.
  • Ability to influence change without direct authority, highly influential, and able to sell ideas and approaches.
