Job description

The Advanced Energy & Decarbonisation Office (AEDO) is a national platform for driving energy and industry decarbonisation research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) under the $800 million Decarbonisation Grand Challenge (DGC). It oversees a Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2030 (RIE 2030) mandate that focuses on scalable decarbonisation solutions (e.g. carbon capture and low-carbon fuels and alternatives) and power system enablers (e.g. power transmission and energy storage) that support Singapore’s transition to a low-carbon economy. In addition to sustaining applied R&D efforts through energy and decarbonisation‑related research institutes and R&D grant calls, DGC includes Singapore Pilots for Energy and Enterprise Decarbonisation (SPEED) as a sizeable and new initiative to support the scale up and pilot of promising decarbonisation‑related technologies for local deployment.

AEDO is housed under A*STAR, and plays a critical role in aligning RD&D efforts with national decarbonisation and grid strategies. It manages major funding initiatives, through robust in‑house techno‑economic analyses and project‑management capabilities as well as forging effective partnerships across government, academia, industry, both locally and internationally.

Summary

We are seeking a driven, technically adept and responsible individual to be part of our RIE Management and Techno‑Economic Analysis (TEA) teams. The individual will identify, evaluate, and manage R&D projects in the field of Power System Enablers and/or Industry and Power Decarbonisation, in accordance with RIE2030 policies. As a contributor to the TEA team, the individual will develop tools, evaluate projects and monitor progress of decarbonisation projects aligned with DGC.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work with the Director (RIE Management) and the Deputy Director (TEA) to identify suitable technologies that would be critical for the decarbonisation of Singapore’s power sector. Such technologies include energy storage, power transmission, grid integration solutions, other emerging power generation technologies, carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS) or hydrogen.
  • Develop R&D schemes, structure funding opportunities, evaluate project proposals, and undertake active programme management in service of AEDO’s objectives.
  • Develop TEA frameworks to evaluate emerging technologies that can contribute to scalable and cost‑effective decarbonisation of Singapore’s Industry and Power Sectors, as well as grid modernisation.
  • Undertake TEA studies and evaluations of various novel technologies.
Job Requirements
  • Degree in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, chemical engineering, or related technical disciplines.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience if applying for the SM-role, or 5-8 years if applying for the SAD-role. Roles that qualify as relevant experience include positions in power systems, grid technologies, or energy sector, preferably with exposure to emerging technologies such as energy storage, smart grids, or renewable energy integration.
  • Proven ability to synthesise complex technical information and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to work effectively across multiple agencies and with external partners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to prepare technical reports and presentations for senior leadership.
  • Understanding of Singapore's energy sector, market structure, and regulatory framework will be advantageous.
  • Experience with managing R&D or innovation projects will be considered favourably.
  • Experience with techno‑economic modelling and analysis tools will be considered favourably.
