Job summary

Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry in Singapore seeks a policy-focused professional to design and implement policies enhancing economic competitiveness and investor value. You will work with statutory boards and across Government to shape strategies and incentives aligned with Singapore’s economic goals.

Responsibilities include reviewing grants and tax incentives, assessing applications requiring METI approval, and monitoring international tax developments such as BEPS 2.0.

• Review sector performance and identify opportunities for restructuring and growth of nascent sectors.
• Evaluate business plans to ensure alignment with economic strategies.
• Formulate Singapore's policy responses to issues like economic security and supply chain resilience.
• Monitor BEPS 2.0 developments and international tax changes; act as custodian for related acts.
• Collaborate with Government partners and industry stakeholders including EDB and Enterprise Singapore.

Job description

What the role is:

You will work closely with our statutory boards and across Government to design and implement policies and strategies to enhance Singapore’s industry ecosystem, attract new investments, and ensure that the fruits of economic growth benefits all Singaporeans.

What you will be working on:

• Design and implement policies and strategies to enhance our economic competitiveness and value proposition to investors
• Review and develop a suite of incentive products (grants, tax incentives, loans, equity, and hybrid instruments) that are aligned with Singapore’s economic strategies, generate strong outcomes and offer taxpayers value-for-money
• Assess tax incentive applications/amendments that require Ministry approval
• Review the performance of individual sectors, identify opportunities for restructuring, and foster the growth of nascent sectors
• Evaluate business plans comprehensively and critically, including to ensure alignment with our economic strategies
• Formulate Singapore’s policy responses to emerging issues such as on economic security and supply chain resilience
• Monitor and develop our response to international economic and tax developments, such as the Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS 2.0) project
• Be the custodian for the Economic Expansion Incentives (Relief from Income Tax) Act
• Work with the Ministry’s Political Office Holders and Senior Management, partners from across Government (especially the Economic Development Board and Enterprise Singapore),and industry stakeholders.
