Job summary

The Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (METI) seeks a policy professional to help shape and implement Singapore’s foreign economic strategy. You will engage in bilateral and multilateral negotiations, advise on trade policy, and collaborate with external stakeholders to support Singapore’s economic interests.

This role requires strong analytical abilities, excellent communication, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

• Trained in Economics, Law, Political Science, International Relations, Accounting, Business is preferred, but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Developing and implementing Singapore’s foreign economic policy
• Representing Singapore in bilateral/multilateral trade and investment negotiations
• Participating in international meetings and conferences
• Providing advice to the Singapore Government on trade policy matters
• Collaborating with external stakeholders, such as Singapore-based companies, business chambers and the general public
• Ensuring Singapore’s full and timely implementation of international trade obligations
• Analysing international developments and their potential implications on Singapore

What the role is:

The Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (METI) seeks to transform Singapore into a leading global city of talent, enterprise and innovation. The Trade and International Economic Relations (TIER) Cluster in METI support this by formulating Singapore’s foreign economic strategy, expanding our external economic space, and safeguarding our economic interests in the international economic arena.The International Trade Division (ITD) is charged with protecting and advancing Singapore’s economic interests by supporting free trade and open markets; upholding and strengthening the rules-based multilateral trading system as embodied in the World Trade Organisation (WTO); deepening economic integration with like-minded countries through free trade agreements (FTA) and bilateral investment treaties (BIT); driving initiatives in regional economic fora such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC); and advancing our companies’ interests abroad rigorously, including by lowering barriers for Singapore exports.

What you will be working on:

• Excellent written and oral communication skillsAbility to work well in teams and in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
• Willingness to travel frequently
