Job summary

A*STAR RESEARCH ENTITIES seeks a Technology Business Development Officer to translate intellectual property and research capabilities into commercially viable solutions, with a focus on the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

You will develop BD strategies, identify industry partners for collaborations, licensing and technology transfer, and build a robust pipeline of opportunities while coordinating with the Innovation & Enterprise Division.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of relevant experience in business development or related role.
• Strong knowledge of the pharmaceutical/biotech industries.
• Experience negotiating licensing and collaboration agreements.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

Job Description

The Technology Business Development Officer will support A*STAR's role as Singapore's strategic innovation engine by translating intellectual property and research capabilities into commercially viable solutions.

Requirements

• Develop and execute business development and commercialisation strategies for BTI's technologies, intellectual property and research capabilities within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector.
• Identify and engage pharmaceutical, biotechnology and biomanufacturing companies to understand their business needs and develop relevant R&D collaboration, licensing and technology-transfer opportunities.
• Work closely with relevant industry partners to adopt technology portfolios and research capabilities through licensing, collaboration and facilitating creation of spinoff companies.
• Leverage an ecosystem of industry partners, start-ups, academia, public agencies and industry associations to fuel the growth of the R&D and industry landscape in Singapore.
• Assess the commercial potential, competitive landscape, market applicability and intellectual property position of technologies being considered for commercialisation.
• Work closely with BTI scientists and A*STAR's Innovation & Enterprise Division to strengthen technology assets and develop commercially relevant intellectual property portfolios.
• Build and manage a strong pipeline of industry collaborations, licensing opportunities and strategic accounts.
• Work closely with colleagues within Innovation & Enterprise Division e.g. Intellectual Property Management, Venture Creation and across A*STAR to achieve impactful outcomes
• Guide junior team members in account management, opportunity assessment, deal structuring, costing and the monitoring of research collaboration or licensing agreements.
• Strong in contractual terms and apply them during negotiations with industry collaborations and internal stakeholders.
• Lead commercial discussions and negotiations with industry partners, including the structuring of research collaborations, licensing arrangements and other technology-commercialisation agreements.

Job Requirements

• At least 8 years of relevant experience in business development, technology commercialisation, licensing, intellectual property management, strategic partnerships or a related commercial role.
• Strong professional experience and industry knowledge within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, biomanufacturing or related life-sciences sector.
• Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and progress commercial opportunities, industry partnerships, licensing transactions or R&D collaborations.
• Strong understanding of intellectual property principles and their application to technology evaluation, protection, licensing, commercialisation and negotiation.
• Experience reviewing and negotiating commercial and intellectual property terms for industry collaborations, licensing arrangements or related agreements.
• Commercially astute, analytical and able to assess technologies, markets, competitors and partnership opportunities.
• Good interpersonal skills to engage and partner diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
• Good listener with keen eye for industry's needs.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Able to think ahead to plan and execute with team.
