Job summary

Evolution Singapore is seeking a Senior Researcher to lead early-stage Data Science and AI research. The role blends 70% research with 30% external consulting, working solely with external stakeholders to shape problems, design experiments, and validate concepts before production.

You will explore Data Science, AI, ML, NLP, and related fields, review papers, propose directions, draft proposals, mentor team members, and develop toward Principal Investigator responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, AI, ML, Statistics or related field.
• Strong research experience in Data Science/AI with publication track record preferred.
• Experience reviewing literature and defining research problems and methods.

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Researcher to conduct early-stage Data Science and AI research, primarily at TRL 1–3. The role combines 70% research with 30% consulting , working exclusively with external stakeholders. The successful candidate should be comfortable defining research problems, reviewing literature, identifying research gaps, forming hypotheses, designing experiments, and validating new concepts before they reach production stage.

Responsibilities

• Conduct early-stage research in Data Science, AI, Machine Learning, NLP, and related areas.
• Define research questions, methodologies, and research directions.
• Review and interpret research papers, identify gaps, and propose areas for further investigation.
• Draft research proposals and technical documentation.
• Design experiments and validate research concepts.
• Work with incomplete, limited, or initially unavailable datasets.
• Engage regularly with external stakeholders to gather context, refine assumptions, and improve data quality.
• Provide technical consultation and mentor team members.
• Develop toward future Principal Investigator responsibilities.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong research experience, preferably at TRL 1–3.
• Experience as a Research Fellow, Research Engineer, Research Scientist, University Researcher, or within a research institute/R&D environment.
• Strong ability to review research papers and identify research gaps.
• Experience defining research problems, hypotheses, methodologies, and experimental approaches.
• Strong Data Science / AI / ML fundamentals and Python skills.
• Comfortable working with ambiguity and limited data.
