Job summary

TikTok is seeking a Security Engineer to join the Global Security Organization's vulnerability management team. You will manage product security incidents, drive internal security initiatives, gather intelligence, and validate reported vulnerabilities to strengthen platform safety and trust.

You will analyze CVEs, automate security workflows, and collaborate with external researchers to advance defense strategies across web and mobile products.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in product security, cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Practical experience using AI technologies or AI-related development applied to security workflows or automation.
• Experience in developing tools and systems to automate security processes.
• Proven experience in identifying and understanding security weaknesses, including OWASP Top 10, and documenting risks.
• Experience with managing and responding to cybersecurity incidents in a structured way.
• Ability to work with external security researchers to discuss and resolve security issues.

Your role, as a security engineer on the vulnerability management team, will be to manage product security incidents, develop internal security initiatives, gather intelligence, investigate, and validate reported vulnerabilities. We're heavily involved in the vulnerability space to improve TikTok's security everyday.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Problem Solving & Automation: Analyze complex security issues, develop clear and practical solutions, execute tasks with meticulous attention to detail, and develop automated solutions and scripts to enhance security processes.
• Vulnerability Impact Analysis: Analyze CVEs and associated public exploit code to determine their practical implications and potential risk to the operational environment.
• Own the Vulnerability Lifecycle: Identify, analyze, document, and coordinate the remediation of security weaknesses and potential attack methods in code and systems.
• Incident Response & Mitigation: Manage and respond to cybersecurity incidents, pinpointing affected systems and clearly outlining risks and exposures.
• External Collaboration & Communication: Engage with external security experts and communicate complex technical information effectively to diverse audiences.
• Program Effectiveness & Disclosure: Utilize data to measure security program effectiveness and coordinate the responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities.
• Vulnerability Scanning Operations: Operate and manage vulnerability scanning platforms, interpreting results to identify and prioritize security issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in product security, cybersecurity, or a related field.
• AI and Development Experience: Practical experience in utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies or participating in AI-related development, especially applied to security workflows or automation.
• Automation Tool Development and System Design: Experience in developing tools and systems to automate security processes.
• Security Vulnerability Analysis: Proven experience in identifying and understanding security weaknesses, including how they can be exploited, with a thorough understanding of common vulnerabilities like the OWASP Top 10. This involves analyzing potential attack methods from code and concepts, pinpointing affected systems or applications, and clearly documenting the risks and exposures.
• Security Incident Handling: Experience with managing and responding to cybersecurity incidents, ensuring a structured approach to addressing security breaches.
• Collaboration with Security Researchers: Demonstrated ability to work effectively and technically with external security experts, fostering open and productive discussions about security.

Preferred qualifications:

• Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with Related Certifications such as BSCP, OSCP, OSWE, OSCE3.
• Secure Software Development: Familiarity with best practices for integrating security throughout the software development process.
• Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, and JavaScript.
• Proficiency in *nix Based Systems: A strong practical understanding of *nix based systems and the tools that can be used to secure such systems.
• Deep Security Knowledge: A thorough understanding of exploitation techniques and effective mitigation strategies across diverse technology domains, with a particular focus on web and mobile technologies. Ability to judge severity and business impact, and provide precise advice on security questions.
• Leading Security Remediation: Capability to act as the primary point of contact for resolving critical security vulnerabilities, including coordinating action plans and verifying their effectiveness.
